Aug. 27, 2005

Columbia, Mo. - The 2005-06 schedule for the University of Missouri men's basketball team has been released, as announced today by the Department of Athletics. Mizzou will play 27 scheduled regular-season contests, with a potential for 30 in all, and MU will go up against at least 10 teams which reached the post-season a year ago.

The 2005-06 season gets underway as the Tigers will appear in the Preseason NIT. Mizzou will host a first-round game on Nov. 14th against Sam Houston State at Mizzou Arena. The winner of the game will advance to play Nov. 17th against either Drexel or Princeton at a site to be determined. Should the Tigers advance beyond those two games, they would head to the Big Apple, where they would play in the semifinals and finals (Nov. 23rd and 25th) in New York's Madison Square Garden. A potential semifinal matchup could come against Head Coach Quin Snyder's alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils.

Highlighting the non-conference slate once again is the annual Busch Braggin' Rights Game with Illinois (Dec. 21st) in St. Louis, Mo. Earlier that month, the Tigers will venture to Fayetteville, Ark. to resume their longstanding but recently dormant rivalry with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The two rivals will square off in Bud Walton Arena on Dec. 2nd in the first meeting between the border rivals since 1997, when the series was halted with MU holding a 17-16 overall edge.

Five days later, the Tigers will travel to Davidson, N.C., where they will take on Davidson on Dec. 7th, in an attempt to exact a measure of revenge for a loss last season in Columbia to the Wildcats. Another interesting non-conference matchup will pit the Tigers against University of Missouri System brethren UMKC Kangaroos, Nov. 29th in Columbia. That will represent the first-ever meeting between the two state schools.

The Big 12 Conference portion of the season gets underway Jan. 7th as the Tigers play host to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Other Big 12 south teams that visit Columbia will include Texas (Feb. 1st) and Texas A&M (Feb. 21st), while the Tigers will play at Oklahoma (Jan. 10th), Texas Tech (Feb. 4th) and Baylor (Feb. 7th) - in addition to the home-and-home pool play of Big 12 north schools, highlighted by the much-anticipated Border Showdown matchup in Columbia against rival Kansas (Jan. 16th).

The Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament returns to American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, for 2006, with the dates of the tournament running from March 9th-12th.

Mizzou is scheduled to make four national television appearances, with two coming on ESPN (Dec. 21 vs. Illinois and Jan. 16th vs. Kansas), and one each on CBS (Feb. 18th at Kansas) and ESPN2 (Feb. 1st vs. Texas), while seven games will appear on the Big 12's network (ESPN-Plus). Mizzou Sports Network games are being finalized and will be released soon.
