Highlights vs. Mexico

Marcus Denmon was again efficient, scoring 10 points including a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the foul line in Team USA’s 102-53 win over Hungary in the 2011 World University Games in China on Sunday.

Denmon earned the start for the Americans, who improved to 2-0 in pool play. He connected on a three-pointer and added an assist and a block in 15 minutes of action.

“We are really coming together,” Denmon said. “Guys are getting comfortable with one another and we are learning each other’s strengths. It was a lot of fun out there.”

Team USA raced to a huge early lead, outscoring Hungary 21-6 in the opening period. The Americans led 58-19 at the half. Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins led the club with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Syracuse’s Scoop Jardine added 15 tallies.

“Games are going to get tougher, we know that, but we just have to play our game,” Denmon said. “I feel like we are getting better and we have a lot of weapons.”

Team USA will return to action against South Korea on Monday. The Americans play at 2:30 a.m. (central time). Team USA is the lone undefeated club in Pool D. Mexico defeated South Korea and Finland topped Israel in a minor upset.
