Irving, Texas - A school-record seven nationally-televised Big 12 games, including an ESPN Big Monday confrontation with Kansas inside Mizzou Arena on Feb. 9 highlights the release of Mizzou Basketball's Big 12 Conference schedule announced by the league office on Thursday.
Missouri will host Kansas on Big Monday for the first time since Jan. 16, 2006, when the Tigers upended the Jayhawks 89-86 in overtime. The Tigers and Jayhawks have played in Lawrence, Kan. on Big Monday each of the past two seasons.
Included in Missouri's seven national TV league appearances is the conference opener at Nebraska on Jan. 10. ESPN2 will broadcast the game in Lincoln, Neb., which has gone to overtime each of the past two years. Missouri won last season's game thanks to six points in overtime from Kansas City native Leo Lyons. ESPN2 will also broadcast Missouri's Feb. 4 date at Texas, while ESPNU will show the Jan. 14 home date against Colorado and the Feb. 25 home game against Kansas State.
The return match-up with Kansas is slated for CBS on March 1 and the contest at Texas A&M (March 7) is being broadcast on ABC.
The seven nationally-televised league games tops the previous marks of six set in both 2001-02 and 2003-04.
The 2008-09 season also marks the first year of the Big 12 Network. Formerly known as ESPN Plus, the Big 12 Network will be the new name of the network during Big 12 Conference telecasts, but will be aired on the same stations as ESPN Plus. This is a cosmetic name change only and fans will not need to subscribe to a new network to view the games.
