Tiger Athletics Adds David Deets To Strength and Conditioning Staff
July 21, 2006 Columbia, Mo. -
University of Missouri Director of Strength and Conditioning Pat Ivey and Head Basketball Coach Mike Anderson announced the hiring of former Oklahoma State Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning David Deets to a similar position in Columbia.
Deets, who spent the previous two years in Stillwater, Okla., working with OSU's Strength and Conditioning staff, will focus his efforts on the Mizzou Men's Basketball and Women's Golf programs in Columbia.
"We are very happy to add David to our program," Head Coach Mike Anderson said. "He comes to us with great qualifications and high recommendations from some very reliable people in his profession. Our staff and student-athletes look forward to working with David."
At Oklahoma State Deets worked with the sports of women's golf and men's and women's tennis, while assisting with the Cowboy Football program.
"I am very excited and optimistic about my move to the University of Missouri," Deets said. "I look forward to facilitating the goals of Missouri basketball, and helping Coach Anderson and the team to reach a new level. I can't wait to develop the kind of player that Coach Anderson needs to fit his style of play. I would like to thank Mike Alden, Mike Anderson and Pat Ivey for this opportunity."
Prior to his two-year stint at OSU, Deets, 30, spent two years as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Hired by the Horned Frogs in 2002, Deets oversaw the physical development for TCU's men's basketball, men's and women's golf, tennis, soccer and volleyball programs. He also oversaw technique and performance drills for the TCU football program.
"We are very fortunate to have David Deets join our staff," Mizzou Director of Strength and Conditioning Pat Ivey said. "He brings great knowledge, passion, experience and intensity to the position and has a very down-to-earth persona."
Following a graduate assistantship at Oklahoma State in 2001, the Newcastle, Okla., native earned his first full-time position as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. Deets oversaw the strength development for NSU's 14 intercollegiate sports, while maintaining administrative responsibilities such as budget oversight, equipment purchasing and personnel.
Deets replaced former Tiger Strength and Conditioning Coach Jeff Watkinson, who took a similar position at the University of Indiana. A 2000 graduate from Northeastern State University in Health and Human Performance, Deets was married to the former Angela Cocannouer in 2005. She is a kindergarten teacher at Parkade Elementary in Columbia.
