COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou basketball seniors Marcus Denmon and Ricardo Ratliffe will take part in events in conjunction with the 2012 Final Four in New Orleans. Denmon will compete in the 3-point contest portion of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships and Ratliffe will participate in the Reese's Division I College All-Star Game.
Denmon will compete in the Hampton Hotels Men's 3-Point Championship on Thursday, March 29 at 8 p.m. at Tulane University's Fogelman Arena. The event will be televised live on ESPN. Denmon will face off against Nick Barbour (High Point), Darius Johnson-Odom (Marquette), John Shurna (Northwestern) and Chace Stanback (UNLV) for the 3-point crown.
The Kansas City, Mo., native ended his career with his name scattered throughout the Mizzou record book. Denmon stands fifth all-time in scoring (1,775), second in 3-point field goals made (283) and attempted (705), fifth in steals (178), sixth in free throw percentage (.800) and eighth in field goals made (597) and attempted (1,311). During his senior season, he averaged 17. As he was named to the John R. Wooden Award All-America Team, earned All-America second team honors by the NABC, USBWA, A.P. and made the All-Big 12 first team for the second consecutive season.
Ratliffe, one of 20 seniors participating in the Reese's Division I College All-Star Game, will compete on the West All-Star Team. The game will be played on Friday, March 30 at 4:35 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and will be televised on Saturday, March 31 at Noon on TruTV.
The senior concluded his Mizzou career as the school and Big 12 Conference record holder in both career and single-season field goal percentage, at 63.5 percent and 69.3 percent, respectively. This past season, Ratliffe averaged 13.9 points and 7.5 rebounds as he started all 35 games for the Tigers. He was named to the All-Big 12 second team by both the coaches and A.P. and was a USBWA All-District VI selection.
