Tip-Off: 11 A.M. CT

TV: CBS (Gus Johnson and Dan Bonner)
Rankings: Mizzou 22/24;
> Welcome to the rivalry that sets the standard for all rivalries ... Some rivalries are based on school proximity or same-state "Braggin' Rights", but name another contest that has its rivalry rooted in actual war, the Civil War ... That's what you get every time Missouri and Kansas lock-up in the M&I Bank Border Showdown.
> Missouri and Kansas compete in the M&I Bank Border Showdown, a competition between each sport at MU and KU ... The Tigers currently lead the 2010-11 series 13.0-to-7.5 ... Missouri has won the last four Border Showdown trophies and boast a 6-2 advantage overall.
> Rivalry aside, Missouri and Kansas players do share some great friendships ... Missouri juniors Marcus Denmon and Steve Moore, along with sophomore Michael Dixon, played with Kansas sophomore Travis Releford for the Kansas City Pump N' Run on the AAU circuit ... Each is a Kansas City native ... Kim English and Josh Selby also share a friendship dating back to their playing days in Baltimore.
> Missouri is an outstanding 17-0 at home and averages a 22.5 ppg margin of victory within the (not so) friendly confines of Mizzou Arena ... The Tigers have won 52 of their last 54 home games since the end of the 2007-08 campaign ... Missouri will look to run its current home winning streak to 18 games in 2010-11 ... Missouri's current 17-game home winning streak is the seventh longest in school history and Mike Anderson is an outstanding 79-10 in Mizzou Arena since he took over the program in 2006-07.
> Missouri has put forth some dominating efforts at home over the last three seasons en route to that 52-2 mark ... The Tigers are 21-2 vs. Big 12 foes at home during that time frame and have 13 wins (vs. league foes) by 15 or more points, including wins over likely 2011 NCAA participants Kansas State (75-59), Baylor (77-59) and Colorado (89-73).
> Missouri is one of four teams nationally to have five players averaging double figures in scoring (along with Iowa State, Long Beach State and Detroit) and the Tigers continue to be led by junior Marcus Denmon ... Denmon has been one of the Big 12's better scorers over the past two weeks, topping 19+ points four times in five games, including 25 at Iowa State and 22 last Saturday at Kansas State ... Over his last five games Denmon is averaging 19.8 points on 59 percent shooting from the floor and 52 percent shooting from three-point range, including eight consecutive makes.
Mizzou Quick Hitters
> It's Senior Day at Mizzou Arena and Saturday's game marks the final home contest for senior forward Justin Safford ... Safford has seen the revival of Missouri Basketball since his freshman season when the Tigers went 16-16 ... Safford has helped the Tigers to 92 wins during his collegiate tenure.
> Missouri is of course playing for seeding in next week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament ... The Tigers could still finish anywhere from #4 to #7 in the Big 12 standings ... The Tigers are looking for their ninth league win and carry a solid RPI of 31 into Saturday's game vs. #1 RPI - Kansas ... Last season at this time Mizzou's RPI was at 43.
> Missouri is looking for its 1,500th win in program history on Saturday ... The Tigers had 1,477 wins entering the 2010-11 campaign and are 22-8 so far this year ... Missouri is 1,499-1,036 all-time.
> Head Coach Mike Anderson is looking for his 200th career win ...
> Winning down the stretch would be significant for a number of reasons, but if Missouri can make it to 23 wins this year it would be historic ... Mizzou has never had three consecutive seasons with 23+ victories ... Mizzou won 31 games in 2008-09 and went 23-11 last season ... Missouri has had three consecutive 22+ campaigns before, most recently in 1982-83, a feat they tied with the win over Baylor.
> Head Coach Mike Anderson continues to build the Tiger Basketball program ... Anderson recently recorded his seventh 20-win campaign in nine seasons as a head coach ... Anderson enjoyed four consecutive 20-win campaigns at UAB before reviving the Missouri program.
> The Tigers rank #8 nationally at 82.0 points per game ... At home that figure jumps to 86.0 tallies a night and Missouri is shooting 49 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point range as a team at Mizzou Arena.
> Perhaps the most impressive stats come on defense at Mizzou Arena ... The Tigers are holding opponents to 39 percent shooting from the floor and 29 percent shooting from three-point range in home games this season, while forcing 21.0 turnovers a night.
> With those great turnover numbers,
> Flip Pressey is a strong candidate for the Big 12's All-Freshman Team in 2011 ... The rookie point guard leads all Big 12 freshmen in assists and steals this year and his 10 games with 5+ assists at Missouri ranks second all-time in school history ... Pressey trails only Travis Ford (11) and is tied with Melvin Booker (10) on Missouri's list of five-assist games for freshmen ... However if you dial it up a notch, Pressey is already Missouri's freshman leader in games with 7+ assists (tied with Jimmy McKinney) with four and the leader with three 8+ assist games.
> Pressey has 61 assists in Big 12 play this year, which is the most ever by a Tiger freshman ... The top overall mark in Big 12 play by a Tiger is 72 by Jason Horton in 2006.
> Mizzou Basketball has 76 victories over its last three seasons, the winningest three-year stretch in school history ... Tiger clubs from 1980-83 and 1988-91 won 75 games over a three-year stretch.
> Missouri has already blocked 157 shots this season and needs just four more swats to set a school record ... The school record for blocks is 160, which was set last season ... MU has never led the Big 12 in blocked shots, but currently paces the league at 5.2 per game.
> Balanced scoring has been key for the Tigers this year ... In fact
> With that great balance Missouri has used nine different starting lineups this season ... Of course it doesn't really matter who starts, it's about who finishes!
> Attendance has been up all season at Mizzou Arena, to the tune of 1,600 fans per game ... Missouri is on pace to break the Mizzou Arena-era attendance record, including three consecutive sellouts ... One factor that separates Mizzou is that the Tigers use actual attendance vs. tickets sold.
> Mizzou has been dominant at home over its last 12 games ... The Tigers have enjoyed 13-point second-half leads in 11 of those contests, including a school record 40-point lead (57-17) at the half vs. Northern Illinois.
> Mizzou is #12 nationally in assists at 16.8 per game, so not only can the Tigers score in bunches, but they do it with great efficiency, recording dimes on 60 percent of their hoops.
> Mizzou has been very good in non-conference games under Anderson ... The Tigers are 54-14 (.794), including four NCAA Tournament wins, since his arrival before the 2006-07 season.
> Missouri has been the ultimate team through 30 games ... The Tigers have had eight different players lead the team (or tie for the team lead) in scoring, seven different players in rebounding, seven in assists and eight in steals.
> The Tigers have scored 626 points off of those 544 turnovers ... So far
> Bench production from the Tiger reserves is nothing new under Mike Anderson ... The Tigers ranked #2 nationally in bench scoring a season ago at 31.6 points per game and have averaged 27.1 points over Anderson's five years in Columbia!
> The Tigers are averaging 25.3 ppg from their bench this season, including a season high 49 points vs. La Salle on Nov. 24 and 42 vs.
> Another critical stat for Missouri is field goal opportunities ... Missouri thrives on its defensive pressure creating extra scoring chances and so far this season Missouri has taken 169 more shots than its opponents and made 142 more buckets.
> Mizzou blocked 10 shots at
> Missouri has typically played some tough schedules over the years and that trend will continue in 2010-11 ... Mizzou will have 13 games against teams ranked / receiving votes in the Top 25 ... Included in that list are some impressive non-conference games vs. Old Dominion and Vanderbilt at home, neutral site games vs. #19 Illinois, #14 Georgetown, Wyoming and La Salle and a road game at Oregon.

Missouri was flawless at home in the Elite Eight year of 2008-09, which included a win over #4 Oklahoma (73-64) and Blake Griffin to close out the regular season ... This year Missouri faces #2 Kansas looking to defeat the highest ranked opponent in the young history of Mizzou Arena (seventh season) ... Missouri has defeated 10 ranked clubs at Mizzou Arena, including an 8-4 mark vs. the Top 16.
Win #1,500 Up Next
Missouri Basketball is shooting for its 1,500th win in program history on Saturday as the Tigers face the Kansas Jayhawks ...
Shooting It Straight
Marcus Denmon is the Big 12's top shooting guard this year with a 51.1 percent success rate from the floor and quite frankly, it isn't even close ... Colorado's Alec Burks is second among Big 12 guards at 45.4 percent, well behind Denmon's pace ... However Denmon is in rare company at Missouri over the last 20 years as his percentage ranks first among Missouri guards since the 1990-91 campaign ... Rickey Paulding is second at 51.0 percent, while Kareem Rush (1999-00) ranks third (.505) and Melvin Booker (1993-94) stands fourth (.504).
Teaching `Em Young...
It's always better to give than receive and Missouri has two of the country's best young distributors of the basketball in sophomore Mike Dixon and freshman Flip Pressey ... Both underclassmen have topped 100 assists this season (Pressey at 106 / Dixon at 102) and they are just the second underclassmen tandem to top 100 assists in the same year, joining Anthony Peeler and current Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford ... Peeler had 179 dimes that sophomore season, while Ford chipped in 105 ... The Missouri freshman record for dimes is 109 by Jimmy McKinney (2002-03) and Pressey needs just four more assists to eclipse that mark.
More Sharing The Wealth Notes
Missouri has 76 wins over the past three seasons and it's no surprise that the Tigers have done it with unselfish basketball ... This year Mizzou is on pace to have eight players with 30 or more assists, the third highest total in school history ... However did you know that the top 30+ assist totals came each of the last two years, when Missouri had nine different players record 30+ dimes, both in 2008-09 (31 wins) and 2009-10 (23 wins)? ... It just goes to show you that unselfish basketball = winning basketball.
Bowers Barely Missing
Laurence Bowers is showing the consistency Head Coach Mike Anderson has been looking for over his last seven games, as he is averaging 14.1 points and 7.0 rebounds to help give Missouri a steady inside presence.
> Bowers has topped double figures five times in his last seven outings, including 20 points, nine boards and six steals vs. Baylor, 19 points at
> During this recent surge Bowers is shooting 60 percent from the floor (41-of-69) and has 10 assists, nine steals and 11 blocks compared to just six turnovers.
Denmon, English Reaches Milestones
Marcus Denmon scored his 1,000th-career point during Missouri's 92-84 victory over Texas Tech on Feb. 15 ... Denmon finished the game with a team-high 20 points, including 18 points in the first half ... The milestone bucket came with 3:08 to play in the first half on a driving lay-up.
> Kim English needed just one extra game to top 1,000 points as he accomplished the feat at
> The duo narrowly missed becoming the first pair of teammates to top 1,000 career points in the same game since Melvin Booker and Jevon Crudup on Feb. 21, 1993, vs.
The Future Is Bright
Mike Dixon and Flip Pressey are the top underclassmen assist tandem among "High Major" programs in the country this season ... The duo has combined for 208 dimes this year, despite the fact that each has missed multiple games in 2010-11.
> Only one other tandem of underclassmen teammates appear in the assist Top 10 of their respective conferences, that's South Carolina's Bruce Ellington (3.3 apg) and Lakeem Jackson (2.6 apg) ... That duo has combined for 148 assists in 29 games.
List Of Home Unbeaten Falling
Missouri is one of 10 "High Major" programs still undefeated at home this season ... The Tigers are the lone unbeaten Big 12 team at home and are members of an impressive list of schools that have seen their home marks remain unblemished as we enter the home stretch of the 2010-11 campaign.
Team Home Record
Notre Dame 17-0
Don't Deny Denmon's Defense
Marcus Denmon makes headlines with his clutch offensive play, but the junior guard currently ranks #5 in the Big 12 with 1.8 steals and his terrific on-ball defense has made him a likely candidate for the league's All-Defensive Team.
> The Kansas City native has had 10 games this season with three (or more) thefts, ranking #8 in school history for three-steal games in a single season ... Denmon is currently tied with former teammate Zaire Taylor and just passed another KC native (Anthony Peeler) on that exclusive list.
> Denmon has also been an outstanding on-ball defender for

Recently Ricardo Ratliffe joined that impressive list with six swats against the Cyclones on Jan. 22.
Kim English came to Missouri known for his shooting prowess, but this season the junior has shown improved all-around play, while focusing less on scoring totals ... This year English is averaging 10.3 points per game, including double-figure scoring games in seven of his last 13 contests, while ranking among team leaders in assists (61) and steals (39) ... The 61 assists are a career high and he owns a positive assist/turnover ratio (61-to-58) on the year.
> English continues to be a potent shooter however and recently scored a season high 21 points vs.

Five In Double Figures = Great Seasons
Missouri has five players averaging double-figures in scoring this season, a rarity in school history ... In fact just three teams at Mizzou have had five players finish the year averaging double-figures: 1964-65, 1988-89 and 1989-90 ... Not surprisingly the 1988-90 teams recorded a combined 55 wins over those two seasons and this year's Tiger team is a solid 22-8 heading into Saturday's game vs. Kansas.
Missouri's depth has led to unprecedented scoring balance this year, as the Tigers have had seven players reach double figures in the same game twice this year ... Mizzou had seven players score 10+ vs. both Central Arkansas and North Alabama ... The last time Mizzou had seven or more in double figures was a Dec. 2, 1995, win vs. Chicago State ... Below is a list of seven-double figure scoring games in school history.

Top Non-Conference Seasons at Mizzou
Missouri finished up non-conference play tied for the most wins in school history, while also boasting the best winning percentage through non-league action (.933) ... Missouri's 14 non-league wins this season tied the mark of the 1989-90 (14-2) and 1988-89 (14-3) squads.
Mike Anderson won his 100th game at Mizzou on Dec. 27, making him the fastest Tiger to reach that feat ... The 147 games it took Anderson to reach 100 topped the previous mark held by Quin Snyder, who won game #100 in 158 tries on Feb. 28, 2004 at Kansas State ... Norm Stewart won game #100 on Dec. 8, 1973, vs. UTEP in his 160th contest.
> Anderson, who is now 110-54 all-time at Mizzou, needs just one more win to top 200 for his career, which includes the 89 wins he racked up at UAB.
> Last but not least, Anderson became just the second coach in Missouri Basketball history to be 50 games over .500 for his career following an 81-62 win vs. Oral Roberts on Dec. 16 ... Anderson joins Norm Stewart (631-333 in 32 seasons) as the only other Tiger coach on that exclusive list.
Paint It Black & Gold
The addition of Ricardo Ratliffe and growth of Missouri's returners in the post have led to much more balance in Mizzou's offense ... The Tigers have scored 1,046 of 2,460 points in the paint this season compared to 916 a season ago ... The 1,046 "paint points" (through 30 games) are the second highest total during Anderson's time at Mizzou, just behind the 1,080 tallies scored by DeMarre Carroll, Leo Lyons and Co. through 30 games in 2008-09.
> Missouri has been outscored in the paint just eight times this season (Wyoming, at Colorado, at Texas A&M, vs. Kansas State twice, at Texas, at Kansas and at Iowa State) and has topped 30 points 21 times and is averaging 35.0 points in the paint per game this season.
Crunch Time Hoops From Denmon
- Missouri trailed #21 Illinois 57-56 with just over two minutes remaining, but Denmon hit a 17-footer with Jereme Richmond's hand in his face to give the Tigers a lead they wouldn't give up ... Denmon scored six points in the final 2:23, including a steal / assist on an Illinois in-bounds pass to seal the late-game surge.
- With the game tied and Vanderbilt running out the clock for a final shot in overtime, Denmon steals a pass from Brad Tinsley, scores the winning bucket (while being fouled) and completes the three-point play for an 85-82 win.
- On Jan. 9, 2010, with
- Missouri and Texas Tech were tied 82-82 with 3:06 remaining in overtime in Lubbock when Denmon came off a screen and buried a 24-footer in front of the Missouri bench to give the Tigers a lead they wouldn't relinquish, resulting in a 94-89 OT win.
- Of course for good measure we need to pay homage to the 60-footer in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament vs. #2
A Point Guard Family
Michael Dixon Jr. is distributing the rock like his "pops" (Michael Dixon Sr.) ... A sophomore standout for Mizzou, Dixon is among the Big 12 leaders in a number of categories this season, including assists (8th at 3.6 apg), steals (2nd at 1.8) and assist/turnover ratio (5th at 1.9) ... Those numbers mirror the collegiate success his father had at San Jose State (1982-85) when the elder Dixon ranked #1 in school history with 477 assists and #6 with 106 career steals.
> However the younger Dixon has unleashed a consistent offensive game as well this year and has hit for double figures in scoring in 16 of his last 27 contests, highlighted by a career high 18 points vs. Old Dominion on Dec. 30 as well as 17 tallies vs. Wyoming, Georgetown and at Colorado ... Dixon also helped lead Mizzou to a win over Vanderbilt with 15 points, four assists and three steals.
Flip The Switch
Flip Pressey is continuing to excel in his freshman campaign and is the Big 12's top freshman in assists (4.1) and steals (1.8) this season, while working his way into the starting lineup ... Pressey's 4.1 dimes per game this season are tops all-time for a Mizzou freshman and his 11 dimes in a 116-63 win over Central Arkansas tied the school record and set the MU freshman single-game mark.
> He recently has flashed some steady offense as well, reaching double figures in five of his last 12 outings, including a career high 17 points at Allen Fieldhouse on Feb. 7 ... Pressey hit 4-of-5 treys, while also dishing six assists with just one turnover ... Pressey opened the run with 16 points at Texas A&M on 4-of-4 treys to go with four boards and two dimes and then poured in 13 points, three assists and four steals vs. #24 Kansas State ... At Texas Pressey scored a team high 12 points to go with five assists and three steals ... He became just the second Mizzou freshman to record a 12-5-3 game in Big 12 play, joining Keyon Dooling.
