Irving, Texas - Missouri swept Big 12 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season, as junior guard Marcus Denmon was named the league's top player for the week of Jan. 3, while Pressey was coined the top rookie.
A native of Kansas City, Denmon continued his outstanding junior campaign by averaging 23.0 points on 17-of-26 shooting from the floor and 10-of-15 shooting from three-point range. The former Hogan Prep standout chipped in 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the 2-0 Tigers, who toppled Northern Illinois and Old Dominion by an average of 29.5 points per game. Old Dominion entered the Dec. 30 game ranked #12 in the RPI.
The 6-foot-3 guard opened the week hitting 9-of-11 shots from the floor and 5-of-7 shots from three point range en route to 24 points in just 24 minutes of action in the win over Northern Illinois. He added three steals, two assists and just one turnover. The junior capped his week with 8-of-15 shooting and 5-of-8 treys vs. ODU. He also contributed an assist and a steal without a turnover vs. ODU's defense.
Denmon scored 46 points in 54 minutes this week and averaged an incredible 1.7 points per field goal attempt.
Pressey enjoyed the two highest scoring games of his young career last week, averaging 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in wins vs. Northern Illinois and a senior-laden Old Dominion club.
Pressey opened the week with a career high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor vs. Northern Illinois. He added 6-of-7 free throws, three assists, five boards and a steal in his fourth career start. The transfer from Navarro College remained in the starting lineup for Mizzou's win over Old Dominion. He hit 6-of-9 shots once again and 3-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also tied his career high with five boards, while ripping a career high three steals.
For the week Pressey was a combined 12-of-18 from the floor (.667), 9-of-12 from the foul line (.750), while dishing five assists with four steals.
It's the second career Big 12 Player of the Week honor for Denmon and first Rookie award for Pressey. Denmon was named the league's top player for the week of Dec. 6, joining junior Ricardo Ratliffe in sweeping the awards.
