SAN JUAN, P.R. - Missouri Basketball overcame a sluggish start to rout Fairfield University on Friday, as the Tigers earned an 87-59 victory over the Stags at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

Leo Lyons recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes, while fellow seniors DeMarre Carroll and Matt Lawrence scored 15 and 14 respectively to lift the Tigers to the easy win.

Missouri actually trailed by nine, 20-11, at the 11:51 mark in the opening period, but locked in defensively, and outscored Fairfield 76-39 the rest of the way. Fairfield fell to 1-3 on the season and Friday's game was its most lopsided defeat of 2008-09. The Stags have played some of college basketball's best teams so far this season, falling 90-63 at Memphis and 74-57 to Virginia Tech on Thursday.

"I think our guys came out a little sluggish today, but after that tough loss yesterday, I knew that would be a possibility," Head Coach Mike Anderson said. "That will happen in a tournament environment from time to time, but I thought once we settled in, we played well. We shot the ball much better today. I thought our guards did a great job finding the open players. We had 27 assists, which on 35 baskets is outstanding."

Missouri set the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off scoring record with those 87 points. The club also broke the event record with 27 assists, a season high for the Tigers. Missouri had seven different players with multiple assists, led by Zaire Taylor who pumped out six assists and zero turnovers. Carroll had five assists as well, in addition to a pair of blocks and a steal.

Missouri will face either Chattanooga or USC on Sunday. Game time is slated for 11:30 a.m. CT.
