Mizzou Basketball Post Game Quotes
vs. Western Illinois – Nov. 18, 2010
Head Coach Mike Anderson
"Well they always say there is no such thing as an ugly win and we will take it any way we can. Lets give kudos to Western Illinois. They were prepared and did a good job of taking care of the basketball tonight."
On Missouri’s slow start...
"Of course when you don’t make shots it makes the defense that much tougher. We are a team that’s a work in progress and you can see it. I’ve never seen a game where you have nobody in double figures but it goes back to my statement about the balance of a basketball team. This team, the nerves were going. When you start seeing guys shooting short free throws and you are 14 for 27 with guys who usually shoot 75-80% for your basketball team, you know the nerves are going. "
On the bench playing well...
"I have to give credit to our bench because it was the difference in this game. When they came out the intensity and tempo of the game really changed. They moved the ball, Steve Moore in my eyes was the player of the game. He came out and used his big body to score and on defense he was blocking shots and getting on the floor. He brought that energy you have to have. We need to have more guys doing that. Ratliffe, Matt Pressey, Phil Pressey, Moore they were the difference in the game, especially in the second half, when we got the lead.
On What To Take From Tonight’s Win...
"For a coach I got the chance to learn a lot of lessons. What I mean is I told our guys you’re going to have teams that are going to come in here, or where ever you play and give their best shot. They are going to come after us, and I thought Western Illinois came in and took it right to us physically, and challenged our guys. But in the end, I thought our guys dug deep and found a way to make plays. Phil with his defensive quickness was great. When things were going bad they didn’t panic, they stepped up with their defense. Our defense will be the key of what we hang our hats on. Offense will come and go and it was gone tonight. At the end of the day we found a way to win.

Junior Guard - Baltimore, Md.
On the Leatherneck’s slow-down style upsetting their rhythm...
“We haven’t seen it since last season really because the way we practice, jumping in the passing lanes and aggressive defense, but that’s how Iowa State and Nebraska play. They’re going to try to slow the game down on us, so it was a great (learning) experience and they played well. They played amazing basketball, but at the end of the day we won, and that’s all we want to do is win the games.”
#32 Steve Moore
Junior Center - Kansas City, Mo.
On his performance...
“I just came off the bench, and I saw what was taking place and I just did something about it. I just came off the bench and played hard.”
On his first career three-pointer...
“I’m not going to lie, it felt pretty good.”
On foul trouble...
“I just have to play smarter and play through it. I got those three fouls and kind of got in a fouling problem. That’s when our bench comes in. Somebody else has to come in and step up, and that’s what we did tonight.”
#21 Laurence Bowers
Junior Forward - Memphis, Tenn.
On what happened at the free-throw line...
“We just missed them. I don’t think anything happened. You have games where you put them in the hole, you have some games where you hold them. We just didn’t shoot free throws well.”
On their game mentality...
“Like I said, you just have those nights. I don’t think we were thinking too much. I believe if we would have panicked, it would have been a different outcome. We weren’t thinking at the line.”
On Michael Dixon’s performance...
“He’s a veteran. You want a veteran at the line. We have a lot of trust in Mike Dixon at the free-throw line. He stepped up. He made the game with his free-throws for us.”
