Missouri Head Coach Frank Haith
On team defense tonight...
"I thought that was the key. Florida is a great offensive team, and I thought our game planning and execution, the way Coach Carter changed up how we defended ball screens. It kept them off balance a little bit. Our guys just dug in and guarded them for forty minutes. It was a great effort on that end of the court."
On getting stops tonight...
"That was the key. We get stops and we are a good offensive team too. I thought we settled a couple of times when I thought we could have driven the ball. The key was us getting in the paint. We talked about squeezing and squeezing and we ended up giving up some threes off of our dribble penetration and that was a key for us getting some better shots. Obviously, that out of bounds play we executed with Jabari, that was a big shot. We made some big shots."
On Jabari Brown's big three pointer at the end of the game...
"I didn't worry about what he was before that. I felt like if he got his feet set, then I have confidence him to make that shot."
On keeping players on the floor...
"We had no one foul out. It was a physical game, our guys adjusted. We got some guys in foul trouble; I think Laurence and Phil had four fouls. It was a well-played game."
Senior Forward Laurence Bowers
On what was the difference for him tonight...
"I talked with coach and I just needed to play with nothing on my mind. I just needed to worry about defense and rebounding like he (Coach Haith) said and that was my approach. I shot a few shots, but I promise you that was my approach was on the defensive end and it just paid off."
On how big of a win this is for the season and what it means going into the SEC Tournament next month...
"It's a huge win. Especially you know coming off a loss. This is a big win for our team. We played a really good team, Florida. But as far as going forward we're just going to take it one game at a time. You know we've got a good Kentucky team at their place so we've got to get ready for those guys. But we're not going to look back you know we're just going to continue to work and keep pushing"
On what the team did in the paint tonight that limited Florida to just 14 points...
"Well like I said Coach really harped on me on about being tougher and playing better defense and rebounding. So that was my approach. And you know what you're going to get out of Alex (Oriakhi), you know he's a physical guy and Tony Criswell is a defensive guy as well, so we just bought in. We knew that Patric (Young) was very capable once he got post depth and we just tried our best to keep him off the block. Eric Murphy is a pick and pop guy, I thought we did a great job on him. We just have to continue to get better in practice and be consistent."
Junior Guard Phil Pressey
On how this win helps him gain trust in his teammates...
"I mean it's a big win for us. I think every single person who played tonight including the bench contributed into that win. Other than Laurence, nobody really played big. It was four points here six points there; a couple of rebounds there. When I say everybody contributed to that win I mean everybody. Deep down inside it took everybody for us to win that game."
On what it took for the team to come back from a 13 point second half deficit...
"Just believing in one another and keeping our guys together whether we're up or down (on the scoreboard). I know that helps out. Coach has been harping on me to do that. And it really helps our guys, it really makes us believe that we can win. This game of basketball is a game of running. You get down by 12 you can also get up by 12. You just have to stay level-headed."
On if he was determined to distribute the ball to teammates instead of take shots tonight...
"No, I feel like I can affect the game without shooting the ball as much. I just took what the offense gave me or what the defense gave me. We really worked on getting the ball back, and I had it on my mind that we were going to work on that and get that through early in the game. And I feel like that really allowed us to get going offensively."
On what was said during the timeout where the team was down 4 points with 3:44 left to play in the game...
"One word I just said was `believe'. You always have to believe you can win. Whether you're up 12 or down 12, you just believe you can win. And we just came out with the W." ____________________________________________________________________________________
Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan
On Phil Pressey's Performance...
"I was really, really impressed with Pressey. I think he did a terrific job of running his team. He got the ball where it needed to be and made the game easy for everybody else. I thought he really played within himself."
On being outrebounded...
"We are going to have to battle every game. We don't have the same team. When they came to our place, they didn't have the same team. We both have had to battle through some different injuries and setbacks. For our team in the last three minutes of the first half, we had Casey Prather, 6'5 guarding Alex Oriakhi at the center spot and Michael Frazier at 6'3 guarding Bowers. They try to do the best they can but more often then not. We are going to have a hard time rebounding out there."
On the last possession...
"We did not want that shot. I would have liked to have some action driven to the basket. Obviously it didn't go in there. When you are down by one, you want to at least get some penetration. We talked about that during the timeout. I have to see the film. I don't know what kind of look it was for him but in those situations, teams are generally going to try and not foul. I think Scottie Wilbekin gave it up a little to early. He had a driving lane there but threw the ball across the floor. We wanted to try and create some action."
Florida Player Quotes
Senior Guard Kenny Boynton
On defensive struggle tonight... "I haven't seen it in a while from my team, but you have games like this and honestly we could have overcome. We had possessions where we could have converted on defensive efforts when Missouri went on its run. We weren't rotating right and we should have made up with free throw shooting."
On settling for threes...
"Definitely. I think we did settle in the first half. Coach told us we weren't playing the right way. We tried to get it down more in the second half, but we still ended up taking threes."
