David Deets enters his fifth year directing Missouri Basketball's Athletic Performance program.
A native of Newcastle, Okla., Deets has helped Mizzou to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight berth and a Big 12 Championship in 2009 and 53 combined wins over the last two seasons.
Deets has tutored four National Strength and Conditioning All-Americans, including 2010 award-winner J.T. Tiller. A featured speaker at state and national conferences, he was a key figure in Nike Basketball's SPARQ advisory program, serving as one of seven performance officials helping to develop new testing protocols for Nike and SPARQ.
Deets also recently led a campaign to renovate the Sally O. Nichols weight room to create a basketball-specific weight training environment, a project that has made the Tiger strength and conditioning area one of the Big 12's best.
Prior to his time at Missouri Deets, 34, spent two seasons in a similar capacity at Oklahoma State University assisting with OSU's football, women's golf and men's and women's tennis programs. He also served two years as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Texas Christian University, overseeing the physical development for TCU's men's basketball, men's and women's golf, tennis, soccer and volleyball programs.
Following a graduate assistantship at Oklahoma State in 2001, Deets earned his first full-time position as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. Deets oversaw the strength development for NSU's 14 intercollegiate sports.
A 2000 graduate from Northeastern State University in Health and Human Performance, Deets was married to the former Angela Cocannouer in 2005. The couple enjoyed the birth of their first daughter, Emery Rose on June 7, 2007.
