Tigers in the Pros Update

Ian Kinsler

Sept. 21, 2010

As Major League Baseball enters its final weeks of the regular season, teams are positioning themselves for the postseason. One of those teams in the hunt for the playoffs is the Texas Rangers, who hold an eight-game lead in the American League West. Their magic number is six.

Former Tiger Ian Kinsler is currently hitting .295 for the Rangers with nine home runs and 45 RBI. Should the Rangers finish off their chase for the playoffs, it would be the first appearance in the postseason for Kinsler.

Max Scherzer and Justin James, both former MU pitchers, join Kinsler  on MLB rosters.

Scherzer continues his strong season in the starting rotation for the Detroit Tigers.  He won his 11th game of the year last Friday, as he struck out 11, allowing two runs on two hits in eight innings pitched against the Chicago White Sox. Scherzer is 11-10 on the year, with an ERA of 3.54 and has 173 strikeouts in 183 innings pitched.

Justin James, who earned a call up to the Oakland A’s on Aug. 31, has pitched in three games for Oakland. He has turned in one inning of work in each of his three appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out two in his first trip to the mound, against the New York Yankees on Sept. 2 at Yankee Stadium. James has an ERA of 3.00, allowing just one earned run in his three innings of work.
