Brett Graves signed a pro contract with the Athletics Monday.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - After three seasons at the University of Missouri, hard throwing righty Brett Graves (St. Charles, Mo.) signed a professional contract with the Oakland Athletics, as announced Monday Morning. Graves was selected in the third round, 101st overall, by the Athletics in the 2014 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

In 2014, Graves led the Tigers with 64 strikeouts and held opponents to a .271 batting average. He was seventh in the SEC in innings pitched (93) and ninth in walks allowed (18). The 21-year-old was awarded SEC Co-Pitcher of the week on March 3rd after pitching 15 consecutive scoreless innings over two starts.

The St. Charles native led his High School to a 2011 State Championship. Graves went 9-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 70 strikeouts for Francis Howell on the year and was named first team Louisville Slugger All-American. He was drafted in the 26th round of the MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals out of High School.

Graves joins former teammate Keaton Steele as the only two Tigers selected in this year's draft. Steele was selected in the eighth round by the Minnesota Twins and signed his professional contract on June 13. Graves and Steele continue the long line of Mizzou pitchers drafted in the early rounds.
