Zastryzny Drafted in Second Round by Cubs

June 7, 2013

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou junior lefty Rob Zastryzny (Corpus Christi, Texas) continued a long line of highly-drafted Mizzou baseball starting pitchers as he was selected in the second round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Entry Draft. Zastryzny was drafted 41st overall (second pick of the second round) by the Chicago Cubs. He is the highest-drafted Tiger since 2009 when both Kyle Gibson and Aaron Crow went in the first round.

Last season, Zastryzny went a very modest 2-9 on the year but was the Tigers' top pitcher as he was given very little run support. In fact, he owned a 3.38 ERA in 13 starts as he threw 90.2 innings, striking out 82 and walking just 24 batters. He threw three complete games and one complete game shutout on the year. In all, Zastryzny started on Friday night 30 times in his Mizzou career and owns a career 3.38 ERA in his career, spanning 46 games with 45 of those 46 appearances being starts.
