ARLINGTON, Texas -- - The Texas Rangers announced Sunday that the club has purchased the contract of former Missouri pitcher Doug Mathis from Triple-A Oklahoma.

The Rangers' 13th round selection in the 2005 June Draft out of the University of Missouri, Mathis is in his fourth professional season.

Mathis, 24, has spent the entire season with Oklahoma, going 5-0 with a 3.55 ERA (18 ER/45 2/3 IP) in seven games/starts for the RedHawks. He has held Pacific Coast League opponents to a .253 (43-170) average with 10 walks and 30 strikeouts. Mathis has four quality starts at Triple-A, where he won each of his first four starts to begin the season. He last pitched on Tuesday vs. Sacramento, earning the win (eight IP, eight H, three R, two ER, 0 BB, six SO, 115 pitches/76 strikes).

Mathis was a late addition to the club's Major League Spring Training roster in March, posting no record with a 4.15 ERA (two ER/4 1/3 IP) in 5 relief appearances in the Cactus League.

Mathis played at Missouri in 2005, appearing in 21 games including 11 starts. He was 5-4 on the year wiht a 3.27 ERA and struck out 67 batters in 77.0 innings pitched. He will join another former Tiger in Texas, as Ian Kinsler is the starting second baseman for the Rangers.
