COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou sophomore Rob Zastryzny has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after his complete game shutout of Texas Tech last Friday night, as announced by the Big 12 on Monday afternoon (April 30). Zastryzny is the third Tiger to take home a Big 12 Weekly honor and is the first Tiger hurler to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Week since May 18, 2010, when Nick Tepesch took home the honor.

Zastryzny's honor comes on the heels of his career-best outing at Texas Tech last Friday in which he shut out the Red Raiders in 9.0 IP. He allowed just seven hits and two walks while striking out five and got through the nine innings on just 112 pitches. He is the first Tiger to throw a complete game shutout in Big 12 play since 2009 when Kyle Gibson did so against Kansas State. It is the Tigers' second complete game shutout this season as Blake Holovach did the same thing to High Point earlier this season.

As the Tigers' Friday night starter, Zastryzny has been very good again this season. Looking into Zastryzny's last few starts, the sophomore has been very good. If you exclude his start at Oklahoma - which was suspended in the top of the second inning due to severe weather - his last three starts have been as impressive as any pitcher in the conference. In fact, in those three starts (vs. Baylor, Kansas State and at Texas Tech), he is 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA (just four earned runs in 25.0 IP) with 14 strikeouts and a complete game shutout. He has allowed just 18 hits in those 25.0 innings.

On the season, he is 4-2 with a 3.58 ERA and a team-best 57 strikeouts against just 22 walks in 70.1 innings pitched, which are also a team-best. Zastryzny and the Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday as it begins a two-game series at Arkansas.
