April 22, 2014

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Athletics has announced a Zero Waste Weekend for all home competitions from Thursday, May 1-Sunday, May 4, encompassing Tiger baseball, softball and track and field. In a continued partnership with the University of Missouri Sustainability Office and the Bradford Research and Extension Center, Mizzou Athletics will reach the industry standard of accomplishing zero waste and provide fans the opportunity to learn more about recycling and sustainability.

Increased recycling and composting containers from the Sustainability Office will be positioned through the Mizzou Sports Park during the Zero Waste Weekend. Mizzou Softball's three-game series vs. Alabama at University Field kicks off the event on Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. Mizzou Baseball opens its three-game set vs. Vanderbilt on Friday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou Track & Field hosts the Tom Botts Invitational at Walton Stadium all day on Saturday, May 3. Volunteers will be on-site throughout the weekend to educate fans on correct waste clean-up procedures.

The Bradford Research and Extension Center, a branch of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR), will process all of Mizzou's compostable material from the weekend's athletic events and put to use in crops.

Mizzou Athletics makes sustainability a priority throughout its 18 sport seasons. Learn more about the University of Missouri's efforts in reducing waste here.
