Mizzou junior Greg Folgia has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. It is the first conference player of the week honor for Folgia, who hit .429 (9-for-21) in the Tigers' five games last week.
Folgia had a .455 average in MU's three-game series against Kansas State this past weekend, highlighted by a two-home run, five-RBI performance on Saturday. His first home run was a two-run shot that was part of a five-run fourth inning for the Tigers. He then connected on a three-run homer in the eighth inning, as Mizzou defeated KSU, 11-6.
Last Wednesday, Folgia closed the two-game series with Indiana State by going 3-for-5 with three RBI. He had at least one hit in all five games of the week.
Folgia is hitting .331 on the year and has a team-best seven home runs and 42 RBI. In conference play, he has a .317 average with four home runs and 19 RBI.
This marks the third time a Missouri player has been honored by the Big 12 Conference this season. Junior pitcher Kyle Gibson won back-to-back Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors on March 16 and March 23.
