COLUMBIA, Mo. -- - The Missouri Tiger baseball team knocked off No. 1-ranked Texas 4-1 in the first of a three-game series on Friday night at Taylor Stadium. Senior Danny Hill recorded his fourth win of the year, allowing just one run on five hits in seven innings of work against the Longhorns.
Senior Cody Ehlers hit his team-leading 13th home run of the year in the bottom of the seventh inning, a two-run shot over the right field wall which gave the Tigers the 4-1 lead. Ehlers was 2-for-4 on the day with three RBI and a run scored.
The Tigers (26-16-1, 5-10) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning as Ehlers doubled to drive in sophomore Trevor Helms.
Texas (41-7, 13-5) tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Missouri responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as senior Ryan Rallo singled to drive in Ehlers.
Missouri pitchers have not allowed more than one run in three of the last four games.
The win for the Tigers is the first over Texas since 2001, snapping a string of seven straight losses.
Game two of the series will get underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All of Mizzou's games can be heard on the ZRG Radio Network (1580 KTGR in Columbia) Tex Little and Luke Cassis providing the commentary. The broadcasts can also be heard online www.KTGR.com.
