COLUMBIA, Mo.- - Junior Jonah Schmidt and redshirt freshman Andreas Plackis each homered on Tuesday night as Missouri defeated Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 14-3 at Taylor Stadium.

Plackis drove in five runs on the night, finishing 2-for-3. Senior Aaron Senne went 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He doubled in the first, then added singles in the third and sixth innings before walking in the eighth. The double was the 60th of his career and the three hits moved him into a tie for fourth place on Mizzou's career hits list with 253, joining Greg Cypret (1975-78).

Freshman Eric Garcia tripled in the bottom of the second inning to drive in two runs to put the Tigers up 2-1. Garcia scored the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Ben Turner.

Mizzou (16-11) added four runs in the third inning, getting on a sacrifice fly by Plackis and an RBI single from freshman Dane Opel. Schmidt then drove in two with his fifth home run of the season.

The Tigers scored twice in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI singles from junior Brett Nicholas and Plackis. Plackis then drove in two more runs in three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when he connected on his first career home run. The three-run shot gave MU a 12-3 lead. Mizzou added two more runs to make it a five-run sixth inning.

Junior Jeff Scardino turned in his longest outing of the season, pitching seven innings and taking the victory, his second of the year. He struck out three, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Tomorrow night the Tigers will be at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to take on Illinois. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
