OMAHA, Neb.-- - Mizzou finished it road trip with a loss to Creighton by a 4-3 score on Tuesday in Omaha. With the score tied at three in the bottom of the ninth, Creighton's Chad Ogden doubled to the gap in left center to allow Robbie Knight to score the game winning run.
Trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning, Mizzou loaded the bases and junior Jacob Priday delivered a two-run double to right field to cut the lead to one. Junior Dan Pietroburgo then grounded out to first base, but on the play, sophomore Kyle Mach was able to score the tying run.
Creighton scored first with a run in the fifth inning. With no outs and a pair of runners in the bottom of the fifth, the Bluejays scored as Michael Lam and Knight delivered back-to-back sacrifice bunts. Brandon Knox went to third on Lam's sacrifice and scored on the squeeze bunt by Knight.
CU added to the lead with two runs in the sixth. Andrew Small connected for his first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall to make it a 3-0 lead.
Junior Evan Frey recorded his second career four-hit game, finishing 4-for-4 with four singles against Creighton on Tuesday.
Senior Stephan Holst turned in his longest outing since returning from arm surgery, with 5.1 innings pitched, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked none.
The Tigers will return to Taylor Stadium this weekend to take on Kansas in the first home conference series of the year.
