Junior Aaron Crow
March 21, 2008
COLUMBIA, Mo. - - For the second-straight start, junior Aaron Crow recorded a complete-game shutout as fourth-ranked Mizzou opened Big 12 Conference play with a 7-0 win over No. 14 Baylor Friday night at Taylor Stadium. The victory extends the Tigers' winning streak to 11 games, their best since they won 14-consecutive games from March 2-24 of 2007.
Crow struck out 10, while allowing just three hits, and has won all five of his starts this season. He retired the final eight batters he faced on Friday, including striking out the final five. Crow is 5-0 on the year and has struck out 51 batters in 35 innings pitched. The second-straight shutout lowers his ERA to 1.03.
The shutout is the first for the Tigers against a conference opponent since taking a 3-0 win over Kansas State last April.
Missouri (16-2, 1-0 Big 12) sent 10 batters to the plate in its half of the first inning, scoring four runs. Sophomore Greg Foglia and senior Kurt Calvert opened the inning with back-to-back singles, with Folgia scoring on Calvert's hit. Junior Steve Gray also had an RBI single in the inning.
Sophomore Aaron Senne led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run, his fourth of the season. Senne drove in two more runs in the fourth, delivering a two-out single. He was 2-for-2 on the night with three RBI and also drew a pair of walks. Senne leads the team with 23 runs driven in on the year and has a five-game hit streak in tact.
Calvert has hit safely in each of the last four games after going 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored on Friday.
