Joining the Missouri coaching staff as a volunteer assistant this season is Travis Wendte. A four-year letterwinner as a pitcher for Mizzou from 2002-06. Last year, Wendte was an assistant coach at Texarkana Junior College, working with the pitchers and outfielders. Texarkana won the Texas Region XIV Eastern Division Championship. Wendte was a member of Missouri's 2006 squad which won the Malibu Regional to advance to the school's first ever NCAA Super Regional. Wendte earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention that season, leading the Tigers with a 1.86 ERA. His 32 appearances that season ranks fourth most in school history. In 2002, Wendte earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team and was a Freshman All-American. He became the Tigers' closer that season, recording five saves and picking up three wins in relief. He saved eight games in 2003, which is tied for fourth on the MU single season save list. The 16 career saves for Wendte ranks third all-time at Mizzou and his 80 appearances on the mound are fourth most in school history. Wendte was selected by Milwaukee in the 24th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He spent three years in the Brewers organization, pitching in 81 games and compiling an 11-2 record, with a 3.24 ERA and eight saves. A native of Moore, Okla., Wendte graduated from Missouri with a degree in communications in 2006. He was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection at MU. |
