COLUMBIA, Mo. - Recognitions continue to roll in for freshmen Kaitlyn Fischer and T.J. Carey, as they were named the SEC Freshmen of the Year by the Southeastern Conference on Friday.  The duo led the freshmen field at the SEC Championships in Gainesville on Nov. 1, with Fischer as the sixth overall finisher, and Carey earning 23rd overall.  Both were named the SEC Freshmen of the Week earlier in the season, with Fischer named after the season opener at Arkansas and Carey named after the final regular season meet in Madison, WI.

Fischer was once again at the helm for the Tiger women with her final time of 20:30.40, making the SEC Championships the fourth meet this season in which she clocked in the top time for the black and gold.  Her sixth-place finish not only put her on the podium for the All-SEC Freshmen Team, but also for First Team All-SEC.  She is the only freshman in both the men's and women's field to earn that honor.

Carey was the third across the line for the Mizzou men with his 24:43.65 finish.  Carey has scored in every meet this season, including finishing as the top Tiger at the Notre Dame Invitational.  Fellow Tigers Drew White and Dan Roe joined Carey on the podium for the All-SEC Freshman Team, bringing the final tally up to six Freshmen Team honorees for Mizzou since they joined the SEC last year.

The Tigers are now preparing to take on their next hurdle - the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, IA.  From there the teams hope to qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will close out the season on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, IN.  For the latest on your Tigers stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
