Cross Country Lands 11 on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Eleven members of the 2009 Mizzou cross country program have earned a spot on the Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 teams, as announced by the league office on Wednesday (Oct. 28). Men's runner Kevin McKee (Kansas City, Mo.) was one of seven student-athletes on both the men's and women's sides to earn a perfect 4.00 grade-point-average. All six of the men's selections landed on the first team while three of the five women selected were represented on the first team - the other two were second-team honorees. Joining McKee on the men's team is Ben Brammeier (Ballwin, Mo), Phillip King (Columbia, Mo.), Michael Pandolfo (Lone Tree, Colo.), Dan Quigley (St. Louis, Mo.) and Ben Wade (St. Charles, Mo.). With the honor, Wade becomes a three-time first-team honoree during his stint at Mizzou while King and Quigley are both repeat first-team selections. Pandolfo and Brammeier earn their first career Big 12 academic honors. The women's first-team selections are Aimee Bonte (Fenton, Mo.), Kinsey Farren (Dallas, Texas) and Ellen Ries (Ryan, Iowa). Both Emily Baker (Wildwood, Mo.) and Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) were selected to the second team. With the first-team distinction in 2009, both Farren and Ries earn their second career first-team honors while Baker earns second second-team honor. Bonte and Roxberg are both first-time selections.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's cross country academic all-league squad consisted of 54 first team members combined with 11 on the second team, while the women had 54 first team recipients and 15 student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
