Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri cross country team will travel to Joplin, Mo., for the 17th annual Southern Stampede, Saturday, Sept. 17, on the Missouri Southern Cross Country Course. Recognized as one of the largest college and high school cross country meets in the Midwest, the men's 8K race is slated for a 9 a.m (CT) start with the women's 5K run set to begin at 9:45 a.m. (CT).

Both of Missouri's teams, the men and 19th-ranked women, enter the Saturday meet having earned titles in their home opener last Saturday at the Missouri Cross Country Challenge. This week, representatives from 43 colleges and universities including Arkansas, Missouri State, UMKC and Oral Roberts will vie for both individual and team titles. Arkansas' men are ranked No. 3 nationally according to the Sept. 13 MONDO Cross Country Poll.

In the 2004 Southern Stampede the Oklahoma women's team edged Arkansas by one point, while the Arkansas men earned the team title.
