Mizzou Hosts Missouri Cross Country Challenge Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Mizzou cross country program will continue its 2009 season with the annual Missouri Cross Country Challenge this Saturday (Sept. 12) at A.L. Gustin Golf Course. The meet, which is the only home meet of the season hosted by Mizzou, features an abundance of talented high school and college runners. Mizzou will look to defend its first-place finish in last year's Missouri Cross Country Challenge as they take on Kansas, Lincoln University, William Woods and St. Louis. The collegiate race will begin at 10 a.m.

The freshman high school boys and girls will run a two-mile race at 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively, while the JV boys and girls will run a 5k at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., respectively. The collegiate men's 8k is scheduled for 10 a.m., with the women's 5k to follow at 10:40 a.m. Rounding out the meet will be the varsity high school boys' 5k at 11:15 a.m. and the varsity girls' 5k at 11:45 a.m. Spectators should be out of A.L. Gustin Golf Course just in time to start tailgating for the MU football game vs. Bowling Green at 6 p.m.

Parking
Parking is available for cars and vans at Reactor Field. Parking will not be permitted on Carrie Franke Dr.

• 8:00 a.m. - Freshman HS Boys (2 miles)
• 8:30 a.m. - Freshman HS Girls (2 miles)
• 9:00 a.m. - Junior Varsity HS Boys (5k)
• 9:30 a.m. - Junior Varsity HS Girls (5k)
• 10:00 a.m. - College/Open Men (8k)
• 10:40 a.m. - College/Open Women (5k)
• 11:15 a.m. - Varsity HS Boys (5k)
• 11:45 a.m. - Varsity HS Girls (5k)

Last Time Out
Both the Tiger men and women got speedy performances from some of their younger runners at the SIU Early Bird last Friday, Sept. 4. The Tiger women placed four student-athletes in the top six in their 4k race, with freshman Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas) finishing first overall in a time of 14:10.09. Head coach Jared Wilmes ran most of the younger Tiger men in the 6k race and saw some promising performances. Sophomore Kevin McKee (Kansas City, Mo.) led the way as he finished first on the team and fifth overall with a time of 19:40.60. No team scores were kept at the meet.
