Columbia, Mo. - The Mizzou men were predicted to finish third and the women eighth at the 2013 SEC Cross Country Championships, as voted on by the league's head coaches.  The SEC released its 2013 Cross Country Preseason Poll on Wednesday.

The Tiger men impressed the league last year with their third-place finish at their first SEC Championship.  Although the Tigers are without key performers Max Storms and Bryant Blahnik this year, both of whom earned All-SEC honors, the squad is looking strong under the leadership of returning All-SEC finisher, Hayden Legg.  Legg led the way for the Tigers at last year's Championship, finishing eighth overall.  He will be joined by fellow-senior Merid Seleshi, junior Sam Dickerson, and returning All-SEC Freshman Team honorees Evan Chiplock, Tyler Schneider, and Joe McKenna.

The Tiger women are also without their top finisher from last year's Championship, Bailey Belvis, but will look to juniors Liz Reida, Courtney Brown, Courtney Wood, and sophomore Sam Garrett to continue leading the team up through the league's ranks.  The team is expected to improve upon their 13th-place finish at the 2012 Championship.


 

 

Points for the men's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis while the women's poll was awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis.  Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

The 2013 SEC Championships will be held in Gainesville, FL, at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on Friday, November 1.  The Tigers will kick off their season with a dual against Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR, on September 6.
