St. Louis, Mo. - Missouri Cross Country had its first appearance of 2013 this past weekend, as nine freshmen competed in Saturday's U.S. Cross Country Championships.  Boasting performances by the nation's top juniors and professionals alike, it was an exciting opportunity for the Tigers to gain experience on the national stage.

Sam Garrett (Columbia, MO) kicked off the performances for MU with the Junior Women's race.  She finished the rolling 6k course at Forest Park, St. Louis, in 23:25.6 for 40th place overall.

Next up was the Junior Men's 8k, where eight Tigers suited up in the black and gold to vie for one of the top six places and a spot on Team USA at the World Championships in Poland.  It was a tight race, with Evan Chiplock (Saginaw, MI), Dan Roe (Arlington Heights, IL), Drew White (Crystal City, MO), Jordan Cook (Columbia, MO), and Tyler Schneider (Schaumberg, IL) keeping pace in the main lead pack for the majority of the race.  With 1k to go, a big move by the leaders broke up that pack, gapping the top six from the rest of the field.  In the end, it was Schneider leading the Tigers with a seventh-place finish in 24:59.1, followed by White in 12th (25:08.4), Chiplock in 14th (25:10.6), Roe in 15th (25:12.9), and Cook in 20th (25:34.9).

As the seventh finisher, Schneider will be an alternate for Team USA at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland on March 24.
