Oaker Named Track & Field News High School All-American

Tiger freshman's resume already hefty

COLUMBIA, Mo. - In the latest edition of Track & Field News freshman Andy Oaker's name appears, listed as one of five High School All-Americans named for the 2006 season in the shot put event. Oaker, a native of Steelville, Mo., comes to Mizzou with a 66 foot, 2 inch personal best with the 12-lb. shot, a feat he accomplished in finishing second at the Nike Outdoor Nationals earlier this summer.

Oaker is a four-time MSHSAA High School Champion, having won twice with the shot put and twice with the discus for Steelville High School in Class 2.

Oaker was also named a High School All-American by USA Today, recording the third-longest performance of the year by a high schooler.

Brian Hancock, a native of Monroe City, Mo., was one of only 20 high schoolers in the nation in 2006 to clear the 16-6 pole vault bar according to Track & Field News. Hancock went 4-for-4 in claiming every MSHSAA Class 2 Championship in the event in his four years at Monroe City High School.

Oaker and Hancock (dorm mates) are part of impressive incoming class coming from high school that will be putting on the Missouri uniform for the first time in the coming months. A complete preview of the season and the Tiger newcomers will be released at the end of November.

Rohr, Lee Finish As All-Americans

Although Friday marked the end of the 2009 outdoor season for Missouri Track and Field, the Tigers finished the season with two more All-Americans in Chris Rohr and Krishna Lee despite more weather issues pushing back the start of the NCAA Outdoor Championships well past the 11 a.m. start time.

After a grueling, nearly nine-hour competition, Tiger decathlete Lars Rise battled the elements and 21 other competitors over two days to finish his 2009 track season as an All-American for the second straight year on day two of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Tigers Qualify Despite Weather Issues

Although weather problems would affect day one of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Tigers were still able to compete, paying off with three finals qualifiers in the hammer throw and pole vault and a top ten placing so far in five events of the decathlon.

Six Tigers have made it through the regional round of qualifying and have been accepted to the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field beginning tomorrow morning.
