COLUMBIA, MO - The University of Missouri Men's and Women's Track & Field teams had 19 student-athletes named to the 2012 All-Academic Team named by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Eleven women were named, including senior school record holder Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, MO) who was also named to the 2012 CoSIDA Academic All American Team. Eight members of the men's team were also honored.
Around the nation, 676 female student-athletes representing 171 institutions received the honors, with 69 athletes residing from SEC schools. For the men, 431 student-athletes from 148 schools were named, including 40 from SEC institutions.
All-Academic Track & Field team members consist of student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while competing in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships for the outdoor season, or for the indoor season they must have been ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or been a member of a relay ranked in the top 48 at the end of the regular season.
In addition to the individual honors, both the men's and women's teams were named to the 2011-12 All-Academic Track & Field Teams. The women were one of 85 institutions named, with a cumulative team GPA of 3.46. The men ended the season with a team GPA of 3.21, being one of 85 schools named. To earn the honor, a team must end the season with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
