Tigers Ready to Take on SEC Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. - It's championship season time for Mizzou Track & Field as they set out for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships in Lexington, Ky., this week.  The four-day meet, scheduled for Thursday (May 15) - Sunday (May 18), will pit the Tigers against the strongest conference in the nation, with a combined 17 of the top 25 men's and women's teams in the current rankings coming out of the SEC.  

The women's heptathlon will get things going at noon ET on Thursday, with the 4x400-meter relays closing events at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday.

ESPNU will air a two-hour highlight show on Thursday, May 22 starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Taking to the track for the black and gold are two returning SEC Champions in junior Kearsten Peoples (2013 outdoor shot put, 2014 indoor shot put) and sophomore Markesh Woodson (2013 indoor 60-meter dash), and three other All-SEC finishers with junior Katrine Haarklau (2013 outdoor pole vault), junior Jonathan Ilori (2014 indoor triple jump), and junior Jill Rushin (2013 indoor/outdoor shot put, 2014 indoor shot put).

Both Peoples and Rushin currently lead the NCAA rankings in the shot put with their personal record (PR) throws during the last two meets of the regular season.  Peoples sits at No. 1at 17.90m (58-8.75) while Rushin is No. 2 with her toss of 17.62m (57-9.75).   

The 15 All-Time Top Ten performers from this season will also be representing the black and gold this week, including Missouri School Record holders Peoples and senior Hailey Twietmeyer.  Peoples took down her own top mark in the discus at the ESU Mid-Week Open with a toss of 57.31m (188-0), while Twietmeyer surpassed teammate Katrine Haarklau's previous record in the javelin with a throw of 51.17m (167-10) at the Missouri Relays.
