Throwers Improve Season Standing Before Big 12 Meet
May 12, 2008
Dailey is one of four Tigers to have qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the men's hammer throw. School-record holder Jason Morris (St. Louis, Mo.), All-American Chris Rohr (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Big 12 shot-put Champion Nate Englin (Mounds View, Minn.) will join Dailey in Fayetteville for the regional. Morris is also qualified for the regional in the discus while Rohr also has qualifiers in the shot put and discus and Englin has a mark in the shot. Missouri was among national leaders in the number of throwers qualified for the regional championships in 2007. Junior John Thies (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) keeps creeping towards a regional qualifier in the javelin. With a toss of 199-5 (60.78m) Saturday in Emporia, Thies marked a season's best for the second straight weekend. Cantwell Continues Winning Ways Christian Cantwell continued adding accolades to a stellar 2008 year on Saturday in winning the shot put at the California Relays, formally the Modesto Relays, in Modesto, Calif. With a World-leading "toss" of 71-4¾ (21.76m), Cantwell pushed his winning streak, started during the indoor season, to six straight, which has now included wins at the USATF Indoor Championships, the IAAF World Indoor Championships, the Kansas Relays, and the Drake Relays. "After I threw that big one, I thought about going over to the long jump pit and taking a couple of jumps," Cantwell jokingly told an Associated Press writer.
