COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tiger women are continuing to make historic moves in the National Rankings as they move up into the No. 23 spot in the nation, as released by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) on Tuesday. This is the highest the Tigers have placed on the in-season rankings since they began in 2008.
The ranking comes after an exciting weekend for the Tigers at home with the Missouri Relays. Both teams left the meet with a combined 17 personal record (PR) performances, four meet records, and five new All-Time Top Ten marks, including a new Missouri School Record in the women's javelin at the hands of senior Hailey Twietmeyer.
Twietmeyer was one of the nine Tigers to earn event wins during Saturday's competition, throwing a best mark of 51.17m (167-20.5) to earn both a Missouri Relays Record and Missouri School Record in the javelin. She now sits at No. 6 in the West Region.
Junior Jill Rushin also came away with a couple record-breaking performances, as she won both the shot put and discus competitions on Saturday with PR tosses. Rushin's wins at the Relays were her third and fourth consecutive first-place finishes this season, as she continues the streak started two weeks ago at her outdoor debut in the Texas Relays. She now sits at No. 2 in Mizzou history for both events, marking in with a new meet record in the shot put (17.45m / 57-3). She also made big moves in the rankings and now leads the SEC and West Region in the shot put, and sits at No. 2 in the NCAA.
