Feb. 26, 2008
COLUMBIA, Mo. -
The Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday that Tiger junior Chris Rohr (Lee's Summit, Mo/North HS), for the first time in his career, was named the league's Athlete of the Week for his performance at Friday's Central Missouri Classic. With a toss of 73 feet, ½ inches (22.26m), Rohr became the nation's leader in the event in adding four feet to his personal best.
In addition to becoming the Big 12 and national leader, Rohr, a two-time All-American in the event, broke Christian Cantwell's 2002 school record of 72-3½ (22.04m). Cantwell, this past weekend, became a three-time USATF Indoor Shot Put Champion.
Rohr's first two throws on Friday were above his season's best, but it was on his fifth and winning throw in which he "Unleashed" the monster toss that broke UCM's Multipurpose Building record set in 1997.
Rohr and Kansas' Egor Agafonov, the defending Big 12 and NCAA Champion, are the nation's 1-2 in the event and will meet this Friday at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
