COLUMBIA, Mo. - While the Tigers Track & Field team prepares for the start of their Championship season this week, four former Tigers hit the track over the weekend in the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Malcolm Pennix ('13), Dan Quigley ('13), Shannon Leinert ('10), and Lana Mims ('10) traveled down to Albuquerque, N.M., for the three-day meet which ran from Friday (Feb. 21) through Sunday (Feb. 23).
Three-time All-American Malcolm Pennix returned to the runway on Saturday, where he finished eighth in the men's long jump competition. Pennix, who holds a top mark of 7.82m (25-8) from his time as a Tiger, maxed out at 7.48m (24-6.5) on his first attempt, moving on to the finals where he maintained his position in the field.
Also making an appearance on the long jump runway on Saturday was Lana Mims, who placed 12th overall with her top jump of 6.05m (19-10.25). Mims was a five-time All-Big 12 performer for the Tigers during her time in the black and gold, and currently appears at the top of the Record Board for the women's 4x400-meter relay.
The women's 800-meter run featured 2010 grad Shannon Leinert, who earned two Big 12 titles and a spot on the U.S. roster at the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships during her collegiate career. She finished out in 11th-place overall for the field.
Rounding out the field for the Tigers was Dan Quigley, who currently sits atop the Missouri School Record board for the indoor and outdoor 5000-meter runs and earned two All-American honors in the black and gold. Quigley took to the line for the men's 3000-meter run and crossed in 12th-place overall.
Championship meets will continue this weekend, as the Tigers travel down to College Station, Tx., for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships, set to begin Thursday (Feb. 27) and continue through Saturday (Mar. 1).
