Track Hosts Two Meets This Weekend

Mizzou Looks To Get Ready For Next Week's Big 12 Indoor Championships

Columbia, Mo. - With the Big 12 Indoor Championships rapidly approaching, the Missouri track and field team will use this weekends first annual Missouri Collegiate Challenge and Missouri All-Comers meet to get prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.

The Tigers are coming off a solid performance in an ISU Classic last weekend that saw Mizzou win six of the 36 events, and placed many athletes in the top ten in many others. The most memorable victory coming in the men's weight throw, as Chris Rohr became the nation's leader in the event with a toss of 22.71 meters. It would also give Rohr his second Big 12 Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Week award of the year.

Friday's events will begin at 3 p.m. and teams participating will be in-state schools Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri Baptist, Hannibal-LaGrange, William Woods and Lincoln, while SIU-Edwardsville will be the only out-of-state team to travel to the Hearnes.

Along with the meets this weekend, fans and teams are encouraged to bring items that will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia. Below you will find a wish list of items that the charity is asking for. Donations will be accepted both Friday and Saturday for the All-Comers meet.

House Items - Paper towels, Ziploc sandwich-size bags, Paper bowls, Non-flavored, single-serving tea bags, 4-gallon trash bags, 8-gallon trash bags, Dish scrubber brush, Tall kitchen trash bags with drawstring, Felt puzzle mat / roll, Collapsible clothes baskets, 40 watt vanity bulbs (white, regular size), Styrofoam "to go" boxes, Paper plates and bowls (no Styrofoam please), Dishwasher detergent, Travel-size shampoo, Travel-size toothpaste, Single-wrapped toothbrushes, Liquid laundry detergent, Variety of men's and women's sweatpants, S - XL, Daily shower cleaner, Velux blankets (tan, full/double)

 

 

Food Items - Filtered-water pitcher with filters, Individual packets of hot chocolate, Coffee, Creamer, Cereal, Heat-n-Eat meals (raviolis, spaghettios, etc.), Butter/Margarine, Sugar, Oil, Eggs, Flour, Miracle Whip, Chocolate chips, Dessert mixes, Individual frozen meals/pizzas, Individual-sized snack items, Peanut butter, Juice, In consideration of our guest families, we cannot accept food items on or past the expiration date. The Mizzou track and field program had another solid performance at the Bill Bergan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 30), claiming four individual event titles and the women's 4x400m relay crown.

After what was arguably the track and field program's best indoor meet of the season last weekend, the team will head to Ames, Iowa, to hopefully build upon that momentum at the Bill Bergan Invitational on Saturday. Once again, MUTigers.com will offer a live blog that will recap each event and help bring the meet to fans that cannot be in attendance. So far this season, Mizzou athletes have set two NCAA provisional qualifying marks and one school record. Mizzou has also defeated Kansas, Colorado State, Wichita State and Air Force in scored meets this season. Adcock Wins Heptathlon at Bergan Invite

After earning third place through the first day of the multi event competition on Thursday (Jan. 28), Mizzou track and field senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) earned the Bill Bergan heptathlon title with an NCAA automatic qualifying point total of 5,758, five points ahead of second-place R.J. McGinnis of Minnesota. The heptathlon title is the first of the season for Adcock, who was competing in his first multi event competition of the season. The automatic qualifying mark is also the first of the season by any Tiger in 2010. Adcock made up a 117-point deficit in three events on the day to earn the event title.

After the first day of competition at the Bill Bergan Invitational, Tiger senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) stands in third place in the men's heptathlon with 3,127 points, just 16 points behind Joey Schwecke of Minnesota. R.J. McGinnis of Minnesota leads the overall competition with 3,244 points.

For the second-straight weekend, the Mizzou track and field program will hit the road, this time heading to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invitational which will be held at the Lied Recreation Center at 10:30 a.m.
