80 Teams Make Trek To Iowa State for Annual Meet

Columbia, Mo. - With only two more contests before the Big 12 Indoor Championships, the Mizzou Track and Field team will participate in the annual ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa over the weekend. Over 80 teams from the Big 12, Pac-10, Sun Belt, among countless others, will give the Tigers another healthy dose of strong competition, to the tune of over 1400 athletes participating in the event.

The Tigers are coming off a much needed bye week after competing in the Big 12-SEC Challenge two weeks ago, as Mizzou took on some of the strongest schools in both conferences over that two-day meet.

The Pentathlon and Heptathlon events will begin the festivities on Friday as the Tigers look to once again turn in award winning performances. Kaela Rorvig can make it two-for-two in the Pentathlon after taking home the top spot in the event at the Big 12-SEC Challenge, but it will not be as easy this time around. Rorvig and Tiger Lauren Begany, will have over 18 athletes to compete with in each event, along with having anywhere from one, to five heats per event.

The same can be said for day two with a full slate of both running and field events. Some of the contests will feature as many as 50 competetiors and as many as 10 heats. Krishna Lee and Chris Rohr will have a host of athletes to push them to the limit in the throwing competetions. Lee is coming off another unbelievable outing, setting two more provisional marks in the weight throw and shot put finishing first and third, while Rohr finished second and fourth.

The Mizzou track and field program had another solid performance at the Bill Bergan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 30), claiming four individual event titles and the women's 4x400m relay crown.

After what was arguably the track and field program's best indoor meet of the season last weekend, the team will head to Ames, Iowa, to hopefully build upon that momentum at the Bill Bergan Invitational on Saturday. Once again, MUTigers.com will offer a live blog that will recap each event and help bring the meet to fans that cannot be in attendance. So far this season, Mizzou athletes have set two NCAA provisional qualifying marks and one school record. Mizzou has also defeated Kansas, Colorado State, Wichita State and Air Force in scored meets this season. Adcock Wins Heptathlon at Bergan Invite

After earning third place through the first day of the multi event competition on Thursday (Jan. 28), Mizzou track and field senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) earned the Bill Bergan heptathlon title with an NCAA automatic qualifying point total of 5,758, five points ahead of second-place R.J. McGinnis of Minnesota. The heptathlon title is the first of the season for Adcock, who was competing in his first multi event competition of the season. The automatic qualifying mark is also the first of the season by any Tiger in 2010. Adcock made up a 117-point deficit in three events on the day to earn the event title.

After the first day of competition at the Bill Bergan Invitational, Tiger senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) stands in third place in the men's heptathlon with 3,127 points, just 16 points behind Joey Schwecke of Minnesota. R.J. McGinnis of Minnesota leads the overall competition with 3,244 points.

For the second-straight weekend, the Mizzou track and field program will hit the road, this time heading to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invitational which will be held at the Lied Recreation Center at 10:30 a.m.
