Aug. 25, 2004
ATHENS, Greece -
Tiger post-collegian Derrick Peterson ran in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, on Wednesday. Peterson finished his heat in 1:47.60, placing fourth in his heat and 42nd overall of the 72 runners in the race.
The eight-time Big 12 Champion while at Missouri, Peterson qualified for these Olympic Games by running a personal-best time of 1:45.08 at this July's Olympic Trials, finishing in third place. Peterson narrowly missed the 2000 Olympic Team, but came back to advance this year.
Peterson was the 20th Missouri athlete to ever be on an Olympic team. The previous Olympian was Natasha Kaiser-Brown in 1996 when she was on the 4x400-meter relay team.
