FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – It was a historic weekend for Tigers Track & Field as an all-time high of ten athletes advanced out of the NCAA West Preliminary Round into the finals in Eugene, Ore.  Three of those ten came out of the final evening of competition on Saturday with senior Shinelle Proctor and juniors Morgan Whitson and Jonathan Ilori all finishing in the top 12 of 48 in their respective events to advance.

The women's high jump was up first, where Proctor and Whitson tied for eighth in the field with a top bar of 1.77m (5-9.75), tying Proctor's PR and coming in just short of Whitson's.  They are the first Mizzou high jumpers to advance to the finals since 2004, when Jenny Bybee took 16th in the nation.

Rounding out the day's qualifiers was Ilori, who jumped to a new PR in the triple jump (15.89m / 52-1.75) to place fourth overall.  His qualification is the first for Mizzou in the triple jump since 1979, when Ajayi Agbebaku took ninth.

Joining Ilori from the men's team will be fellow-junior Macauley Garton, whose sixth-place finish in Thursday's javelin competition stamped his ticket to Eugene.

The women, who had their most qualifiers in school history this weekend with eight, kicked the meet off with an exciting series of events on Thursday.  Senior Hailey Twietmeyer got things going with the Tigers' first qualification, placing eighth in the javelin to become the first female javelin thrower in school history to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Next up was junior Katrine Haarklau and senior Heather Green, who placed sixth and tenth, respectively, in the pole vault.  This will be Haarklau's third time at the NCAA Championships, after finishing fifth for an All-American honor last year.  Green will be making her NCAA Championships debut after qualifying for the West Prelims in 2012.

Juniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin were back at it in the shot put ring, closing out in third and seventh to move on to the finals.  The pair, who currently lead the NCAA in the event at No. 1 (Peoples) and No. 2 (Rushin), ended their indoor season with All-American finishes in the event, with Peoples taking third and Rushin sixth.

Closing out Thursday's qualifiers was freshman Kaitlyn Fischer, who continued with her stand-out debut season with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run to move on to Eugene.  This will be the second time at the national meet for the SEC Cross Country Freshman of the Year, after she placed 79th at the Cross Country Championship.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Oregon, will begin Wednesday June 11th and go through Saturday June 14th.  For the latest on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
