Lee Qualifies For Nationals On Day One

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On day one of the 2009 Mideast Regionals, the Tigers track squad capitalized on some of their better events and will go into the final day looking to send some of the best athletes to the national meet in Fayetteville. Krishna Lee was the first Mizzou athlete to punch her ticket, as she would go on to place in the top five in her event.

Senior Krishna Lee continues her march to the national meet, finishing third in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 206 feet, nine inches (63.03m), earning six points for the Tiger women's team.

Shannon Leinert finished third in the first heat of the women's 800-meter run, qualifying for Saturday's finals in the ninth spot, clocking in at 2:07.57, four seconds under the Cardinal Park record.

In the third heat of the men's 400-meter hurdles, Chris Davis finished a close third in his heat in 51.35 seconds, giving him the sixth best time for tomorrow's finals.

Tim Cornell made the finals of the men's 1500-meter relay with a late comeback, finishing sixth in his heat in 3:46.49, while Emily Baker earned the last spot in the finals of the women's 1500-meter relay, finishing sixth in her heat in of a time of 4:34.01.

The final day of the regionals will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's javelin.
