LUBBOCK, Texas - On the final day of the 2009 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Missouri Tigers looked to end the conference meet on a high note. A third individual championship, and two second place finishes on Sunday sent the Tigers out strongly.

Shannon Leinert was the favorite going into the finals of the women's 800-meter run, and she left little question about that fact early in her race, pulling the indoor-outdoor double, winning in the finals clocking in at 2:07.29. Leinert becomes the first woman to win the outdoor title since Ashley Pattern who won in 2005.

"It feels good, especially good because I was the indoor champion, and wanted to win again to prove that it wasn't a fluke," Leinert said. "I told myself to focus and be confident going against the other competition and I believe I did that."

Krishna Lee was the highest point earner on the women's side during the championships, and solidifying that would be her second place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 5 ½ inches. Over the three day weekend she finished first in the hammer throw, second in the shot put and sixth in the discus for 21 total points.

Brian Graybill had the best finish of any male Tiger runner on Sunday, finishing second in the men's 1500-meter run in a time of 3:51.18. In that same race, Tim Cornell finished strong, placing fifth in 3:53.54. Emily Baker and Ellen Ries placed fourth and sixth in the finals of the women's 1500-meter run, with Baker clocking in at 4:28.60, while Ries finishing in 4:33.93.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team set a net outdoor school record in their fourth place finish time of 3:40.86, beating the previous time of 3:41.12 set in 2000. The men's team of Jerron Forte, Ryan Blackwell, Nick Adcock and Chris Davis finished third in the men's 4x400-meter relay in 3:09.73.

Junior Andy Oaker had his highest finish of the weekend in the men's shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 57 feet, 10 ½ inches, earning five points for the Tigers, while Chris Rohr placed seventh with a toss of 56 feet, 4 ½ inches earning two points for the men's team.

Sophomore Chris Davis earned five points for the Tiger men, finishing fourth in the men's 400-meter run, crossing the tape in 52.11 seconds, while Leslie Farmer began her outdoor career making the finals of the women's 400-meter hurdles, and then on Sunday scored her first points of the meet finishing fifth in 1:01.14.

In the Men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Mizzou's Dan Quigley and Michael Barrows finished sixth and seventh scoring five points for the men's team. Quigley clocked in at 9:09.17, while Barrows finished in 9:10.62.

The men's team finished the championships fifth overall with 74 points while the women's team finished seventh overall with 62 points.

With the regular season over, many Tigers will now prepare for the NCAA Mideast Regionals in Louisville, Kentucky in two weeks.
