The University of Missouri Track & Field teams wrapped up competition on day one of the 2012 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with both teams in fourth place after 3 events completed. The women currently sit fourth with 14 points, while the men have 13 points. The meet is hosted by Kansas State University at the R.V. Christian Track Complex in Manhattan, Kansas. Day two of competition in the three-day event will kick off at 10 a.m. with the men's decathlon 110-meter hurdles.

The women's javelin throw got the competition started with two Tigers placing in the top six. Leading the way was sophomore Hailey Twietmeyer (Cheney, KS) throwing a personal best of 46.78 meters (153'6") on her third attempt. The mark would land Twietmeyer fourth place in the championships. Earning All-Conference honors with her teammate was freshman Katrine Haarklau (Bergan, Norway), placing sixth with a toss of 43.99 meters (144'4").

The women's hammer throwers added two more All-Big 12 honorees. Junior Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, MO) led the way with a personal best throw of 55.19 meters (181'1"). Collins placed seventh, while teammate Melissa Coil placed right behind in eighth with a mark of 54.64 meters (179'3").

The only final on the track on day one for the women was the 10,000 meter run. Senior Kinsey Farren (Dallas, TX) led much of the race early on and finished in sixth place in a very strong field with a time of 35:54.19.

The hammer throwers were the highlight of the day on the men's side. Junior Jacob Bullinger (Jackson, MO) and freshman Brian Duncan (Iberia, MO) stepped up with huge personal best to lead the Tigers to third and fifth place finishes. Bullinger's toss of 61.50 meters (201'9") placed him third and Duncan's throw of 59.66 meters (195'9") garnered him fifth place. Joining his teammates as an All-Big 12 performer was freshman MaCauley Garton (Shawnee, KS). Garton finished sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 62.85 meters (206'2").
