AZUSA, Calif. - The women's heptathlon and men's decathlon got the week underway for the Tigers out in California on Wednesday, as juniors Morgan Whitson and Ser Whitaker took on the first part of their two-day competition at the California Invitational/Mt. SAC Combined Events.
Whitson was the first up of the pair on Wednesday with her first four competitions of the California Invitational Combined Events. She closed out day one in eighth overall out of the field of 49 with a score of 3,051 points. Pushing her into the top portion of the field were two exciting performances in the high jump and shot put in which she placed second and fourth, respectively.
Whitson will continue into Thursday with the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run to close out the seven-event contest.
Whitaker also holds a top ten spot in his field at the Mt. SAC Combined Events competition after his first day of the decathlon, emerging in sixth with a point tally of 3,784. En route to this day one finish was a PR performance in the long jump, where he placed ninth with a top mark of 6.92m (22-8.25).
