COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Track and Field team wrapped up another solid weekend of track and field action at LSU's "Battle
on the Bayou". Tiger Captain Dan Quigley (Saint Louis, MO) led the Tigers by winning the men's 1500m run with a personal best
and meet record of 3:45.50. Heading into weekend, Quigley's time is good enough for 11th on the National Descending Order List. In
all, the Tiger Men placed three in the top 4 in the men's 1500m as junior Max Storms (Kansas City, MO) and freshman Merid Seleshi
(Ontario, Canada) placed second and fourth posting times of 3:46.86 and 3:49.12 respectively. Both Storms and Seleshi not only set
personals bests but also bettered the previous meet record of 3:49.29 set in 2011.
The "Battle on the Bayou" featured competition from LSU, Missouri, Connecticut, Mississippi State, Penn State, Texas Tech, Iowa,
Illinois, and Houston.
Not to be out done by their teammates in the 1500m run, Ricky West (Scarborough, Ontario) and Blake Irwin (Bettendorf, Iowa) also
bettered the previous meet record in the men's 800m run. Both West and Irwin clocked a seasons bests and 1:47.30 and 1:48.07.
West's mark currently stands as a top five time in the NCAA.
"Dan and Max did a great job setting the tone for the guys today. We talk a lot about using these meets not only to try to go in and
win, but to make sure we take advantage of great competition to propel us to run fast. Each did a great job of this making moves at
the right time throughout the race and helping one another out. The same can be said about Ricky and Blake really digging in against
some of the best 800 meter runners in the country", said Men's Distance Coach Joe Lynn.
Junior
Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, MO) helped lead Tiger field eventers to some solid performances as well on Saturday. Mosier's
throw of 17.58m (57'8.25") in the Shot Put surpassed the previous meet record as well and was good enough for third on the day.
Other strong marks were turned in by
Brian Duncan (Iberia, MO) with a 57.96m (190'2") toss in the Hammer Throw for eighth place,
freshman
MaCauley Garton (Shawnee, KS) placing fifth in the Javelin Throw with a toss of 62.28m (204'4"), and Malcom Pennix
(South Bend, IN) with a fifth place jump of 7.47m (24'6.25") in the Long Jump.
The women's team was once again led by freshman Kearsten Peoples who continues to set the bar high during her outdoor campaign,
capturing another meet record. People's winning mark in the Shot Put of 17.03m (55'10.5") was nearly six feet better than the
previous mark set in 2011. The Tiger women placed five in the competition's top eight as Jill Ruhin, Cortni Ervin, Laura Greenfield
and Katie Evans placed third, fourth, fifth and eighth overall.
Other notable performances for the Tiger women in Baton Rouge came from freshman Liz Reida (Springfield, MO) and Courtney
Wood (Neosho, MO) finishing third and fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase, Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, MO) running another
strong 400m Hurdle race finishing in third, and the fourth, fifth, and sixth place finish in the Javelin Throw coming from Katrine
Haarklau (Bergan, Norway), Hailey Twietmeyer (Cheney, KS), and Bethany Pfeiffer (Boonville, MO).
On Friday night in Palo Alto, CA, Kinsey Farren (Dallas, TX) and Bailey Belvis (Prosper, TX) competed in the 10,000m run and
5,000m run respectively. Farren led the charge running to a huge personal best time of 34:37.10 at Stanford University, placing her in
the top 3 all-time for Tigers in the 10,000m.
The Men's and Women's teams from Missouri will return to action next Saturday as the program will host the Tom Botts Invitational
at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Joining the Tigers will be teams from Illinois, Iowa, Loyola (IL), Depaul, and Missouri State. The
meet will kick off with field events starting at 10:00am and running events at 11:00am.
