COLUMBIA, Mo.--Sophomore Jason Morris (St. Louis, Mo.) broke the University of Missouri's men's hammer throw record Friday afternoon at the 7th Annual Missouri Relays in Columbia. Morris catapulted past former Tigers Micah Shanks and Russ Bell on Mizzou's all-time list with a winning, meet-record throw of 213 feet, 11 inches (65.21m). Tiger underclassmen Chris Rohr and Tyler Dailey also had marks above 208 feet to take second and third.

Morris' field series was fairly impressive as with only one foul, he was able to eclipse the 208-foot mark with every other throw, all which topped his all-time best entering the meet. He tied Micah Shanks's 2002 school record on his first throw with a 210-1 (64.04m) taping. Morris' fourth throw was his best of the day. Morris also came within inches of the Audrey Walton stadium record, a place that's hosted the 1998, 2000, and 2002 Big 12 Championships.

Sophomore Chris Rohr was second in the event, as he marked 209-2 (63.76m) on his final throw -- yes, a 59-foot personal-best - to scare Morris's newly claimed record. Rohr earned an NCAA-regional qualifying mark for the first time this season with the huge mark. Morris, Rohr, and sophomore Tyler Dailey all had marks that would put them in nation's top 15 of marks entering the early-season weekend. Dailey placed third overall with a 204-4 (62.29m), clearing 200 feet for the first time in his career with the nine-foot personal best. Fourth went to junior Tiger Bobby Musil, as he marked 193-3 (58.91m) with a 36-foot personal best.

Undoubtedly, the Mizzou quartet destroyed the school's record books today. In the 105-year history of the track program, after over 80 years of the hammer event, Jason Morris currently tops the board with Micah Shanks in second, Rohr moved to third all-time. Russ Bell, who was an All-American at Mizzou in the event, slides to fourth all-time at Mizzou and Dailey is in fifth. Musil moves to sixth past Christian Cantwell.

The Missouri Relays attracted 45 high school and collegiate teams from around the Midwest for the two-day meet.
