COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers closed out day one of three in Texas on Thursday with eight athletes splitting between the Texas Relays at the Univ. of Texas in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State in San Marcos. Already the Tigers saw three new All-Time Top Ten marks as junior Maggie moved up in the pole vault record book, and freshman Alyssa Applebee and junior Jill Rushin both made their Top Ten debuts in the pole vault and discus, respectively.
The Tigers swept the first three spots in the women's pole vault at the Bobcat Invitational, with senior Heather Green taking the win followed by Givens and Applebee. All three hit a final bar of 3.85m (12-7.5), which moves Givens and Applebee into the No. 4 spot on the outdoor All-Time Top Ten list. Green holds the No. 3 spot with her personal record (PR) from 2012, 3.98m (13-0.75).
Givens and Applebee are both coming off an exciting indoor season, which closed with them tied for No. 3 on the All-Time Top Ten list for the indoor pole vault at 3.97m (13-0.25).
Rushin is also continuing to build her momentum from the indoor season, which featured her first All-American finish at the NCAA Championships for the shot put (sixth). She placed third in Thursday's discus competition at the Bobcat Invitational with a top throw of 50.95m (167-2), which launches her into the All-Time Top Ten list for the event at No. 3. Close behind her in the competition was classmate Kearsten Peoples in fourth, and senior Katie Evans in sixth.
Thirty minutes north of Texas State was the Texas Relays, where four Tigers took on one of the nation's most prestigious meets, featuring eight-fellow SEC programs along with 18 of the top-25 ranked teams in the NCAA, as released by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association).
Peoples and Evans began the day with 17th and 21st-place finishes in the women's hammer throw, respectively. Also featured in the hammer cage was junior Brian Duncan, who improved upon his winning performance from last weekend's SIUE Cougar Classic to finish 13th in Thursday's field.
Rounding out the performers on Thursday was sophomore Drake Stuedemann, who placed 22nd in his first 400-meter hurdles competition in the black and gold.
