SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Missouri Track & Field team enjoyed a successful day one of the Notre Dame Meyo Classic on Friday. Bobby Musil threw for a two-foot personal best in the weight throw to earn an NCAA provisional qualifying mark along with the Tiger women's distance medley relay team who did the same helped by an extraordinary half-mile leg provided by freshman Trisa Nickoley. The Tigers also made four more entries into the team's all-time top five list along with six personal bests.

Nickoley (Tecumseh, Kan.) ran a blazing 2:07.0 800-meter third leg to catch Wake Forest and Michigan from 20-meters behind to give the Tigers the lead into the 1600-meter final leg ran by Amanda Bales. The Tiger women's distance medley team placed second to national-champion favorite Michigan, keeping the race close through three legs. The team's total time of 11:19.46 is an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark and the third-best all-time at Mizzou. Junior Ashley Patten (Clarkston, Mich.) led off the relay with a 1200-meter leg split of 3:26. Next, senior Whittney Stuart (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took the baton for the 400-meter, running in 55.1. Then, Nickoley received the handoff in third and handed to Bales who attacked the 1600-meter in 4:50. Last year, the Tiger women won the Big 12 Indoor Championship in the event and later challenged the same Michigan team at the Drake Relays.

The men's weight throw was also a marquee event for the Tigers on day one. RS Freshman Bobby Musil (DuBois, Neb.) connected on a throw of 63 feet, 5 inches (19.33m) to win and added two-feet to his previous personal best. Musil has added six-feet to his personal bests in the last two meets. Musil also takes fourth-place all-time at Mizzou. Senior Adam Burla earned a personal best for the fourth week in a row with his fifth-place throw of 58 feet, 1½ inches (17.79m), topping his old best by two feet. Freshman Tyler Dailey (Joplin, Mo.) took fourth with 59 feet, ¼ inch (17.99m).

Senior Brandon Goebbert (Hinsdale, Ill.) continued on the personal-best trail, vaulting to the fifth-best performance all-time at Mizzou clearing a bar of 16 feet, 2¾ inches (4.95m), the best for a Tiger since 1992.

In the 5000-meter run, junior Matt Noonan (Baldwin City, Kan.) and senior Josh Davis (Liberty, Mo.) ran strong races to earn personal bests and a spot in the Tiger all-time top-five list. Noonan's ninth-place time of 14:24.94 is the second-best all-time at Mizzou, and Davis' time of 14:35.75 earns him the fourth spot on that list.

The men's distance medley relay made a good showing, also placing second to national-favorite Michigan. Finishing in 9:48.61, the team of Neville Miller (1200m, 2:58.5), Jimmie Jones (400m, 47.6), Marcus Mayes (800m, 1:51.4), and Tipper O'Brien (1600m, 4:10) earned the fifth spot on the Mizzou All-Time Top Five List.

Personal bests also were earned by junior Nicole Johnson (2:56.04) and freshman Summer Owens (2:59.53) in the 1000-meter run.
