Marcus Mayes his second year on the Mizzou Track & Field staff in 2009 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Mayes was a three-time All-American while at the University of Missouri in the 800-meter run. Mayes, a 15-time All-Big 12 performer, carries a 1:47.71 personal best at the distance, set at 2007 NCAA Mideast Regional.

Mayes was an IAAF World Junior qualifier after winning top honors at the 2004 USATF Junior Championships at 800 meters in College Station, Texas. Mayes was a member of two relay squads, the 4x800-meter relay and distance medley relay, which won Drake Relays titles in 2006. Mayes has also qualified for the USATF Championships on three occasions.

2007:
Outdoor: Regional qualifier at 800 meters for the fourth-consecutive year, running a season's best 1:48.65 at the Arkansas Invitational ... took second at the Big 12 Championships at 800 meters, running 1:48.76, defeated by Texas Tech's Zach Glavash ... finished 23rd at the NCAA Championships, running a 1:50.48 in the heats ... also part of eighth-place 4x400 team at Big 12s ... part of second-place 4x1600-meter relay and fourth-place sprint medley relay at the Drake Relays, running on three total during the weekend (also 4x400) .... winner of Tom Botts Invitational 800-meter (1:51.41). Indoor: For a second time earned All-America honors at 800 meters, qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a 1:48.60, season-best clocking at the Cyclone National Qualifier ... placed 12th at the NCAA Indoor meet, running a 1:50.35 in the heats ... finished third at the Big 12 Indoor at the distance, doing so for the third-consecutive year ... also placed seventh with the 4x400-meter relay team to earn 11th All-Big 12 honor.

Outdoor: Qualified for NCAA Outdoor Championships at 800 meters with second-place Mideast Regional finish ... ran season best of 1:47.99 in runner-up performance at Big 12 Championships, qualifying for the USATF Championships in the event with the time ... part of two winning relays, 4x800 and DMR, at Drake Relays, anchoring the 4x800 team ... winner of Tom Botts Invitational 800-meter run, clocking 1:48.94, and was named Outstanding Performer of the Meet. Indoor: All-American at 800 meters after 13th-place finish (seventh American) at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... qualified for national meet with a 1:48.72 indoor-PR clocking in winning at the Iowa State Qualifier ... placed third for the second-consecutive year at the Big 12 Indoor Championships at 800 meters ... part of winning 4x800-meter relay team at MU-KU-KSU triangular.

Outdoor: Ran a 1:47.78 800-meter race as part of a whirlwind 800-meter race at the Big 12 Championships, placing sixth, qualifying for the NCAA regionals and USATF National Championships in the process ... also qualified in the NCAA regionals as part of the 4x400-meter relay ... on third-place distance medley relay team at the Drake Relays. Indoor: Earned All-American honors with an eighth-place finish with distance medley relay team, setting a new school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational with a time of 9:35.25 as the third-800m leg ... earned All-Big 12 honors in the 800-meter run with a third-place conference finish (1:49.61) ... also earned All-Big 12 honors as part of 4x400-meter relay team ... was on the winning 4x800-meter relay team at the MU-KU-KSU Triangular.

Outdoor: Qualified for the World Junior Championships and was part of Team USA that traveled to Grosetto, Italy ... finished in second place in the 800 at the USATF Junior National Championships ... along with personal-best time of 1:49.94 at Ward Haylett Invitational gave access to World meet ... NCAA Mideast Regional qualifier in the 800, placing 23rd in Baton Rouge ... came in 11th at the Big 12 Championships ... season bests: 1500m, 4:04.43, Missouri Relays.
