Academic Awards & Scholarships

Mizzou makes a strong effort to recognize current and former student-athletes for awards, recognition, and scholarships. Current Mizzou student-athletes interested in obtaining additional information regarding any of the scholarships or awards listed below should contact Kim Martin, academic coordinator. Student-Athletes may also visit the NCAA Website for more information regarding NCAA Scholarships. All deadlines listed are subject to change.

NCAA Today's Top VIII Award
This award honors the top eight outstanding senior student-athletes across the nation who have brought distinction to themselves, their institutions and intercollegiate athletics. The selection criteria is based on athletic ability and achievement, academic achievement, character and leadership roles/activities. Application Deadlines: Winter sports: July; Fall sports: November

NCAA Woman of the Year Award
This award honors senior female student-athletes for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community leadership. Nominees must apply during their last season of intercollegiate eligibility and have been a varsity letter winner. Applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.50. Application Deadline: June

NCAA Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship
The NCAA awards one male and one female student-athlete for their outstanding academic achievement, superior character and leadership, and potential success in graduate study. The award is $21,500. Applicants must possess a minimum 3.5 GPA, and apply in their senior year or final season of eligibility. Award winners must enroll in a graduate degree program within five years. Application Deadline: January

NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program
The NCAA awards scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically. Students must be in their final year of intercollegiate competition and intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time graduate student within three years. The scholarships are one-time nonrenewable grants of $7,500. Applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 3.20. Application Deadline: Fall sports (football, soccer, volleyball): February. Winter sports (Basketball, Gymnastics, Swimming and Diving, Indoor Track and Field, and Wrestling): March. Spring sports (Baseball, Golf, Softball, Tennis, Outdoor Track and Field): May

NCAA Ethnic Minority Scholarships
Thirteen scholarships are available annually to students from ethnic minorities who will be entering their first semester of postgraduate studies. Applicants must be accepted into a sports administration or related program that will assist them in obtaining a career in athletics. Each award is valued at $6,000. Application Deadline: December

NCAA Women's Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship
Thirteen scholarships are available annually to women entering the first semester of their postgraduate studies. Applicants must be accepted into sports-administration or a related program that will assist them in obtaining a career in athletics. Each award is valued at $6,000. Application Deadline: December

NCAA Degree Completion Award
The NCAA established this program to assist student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility for institutional financial aid. Applicants must have completed eligibility for athletics-related aid at a Division I member institution before applying and must be within 30 semester hours of fulfilling their degree requirements. Full-time students receive grants equal to a full athletics grant at the institution; part-time students receive tuition and an allowance for books. Application Deadline: October and May

National Football Foundation Scholarships
Fellowships are awarded each year to a select group of college football seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability, school leadership, and superior football performance. The graduate fellowships are $18,000 grants. Applicants must possess a minimum 3.0 GPA and be in their final year of eligibility.

Big 12/Good Works Team
This award, presented by the Big 12 Conference, recognizes the extra efforts made by student-athletes on and off the field. Nominees must be actively involved and committed to working with charitable organizations, service groups or community service.

Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Awards
These awards pay tribute to those student-athletes of color who have aspired to achieve success on and off the playing field. Nominees must be a minority/student of color who is an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team. Applicants should demonstrate a record of service to the campus or community, have a minimum GPA of 3.20 and have completed one academic year of undergraduate work. Application Deadline: March

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams®
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, womens volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, mens basketball, womens basketball, baseball, softball, mens track & field/cross country, womens track & field/cross country, mens at-large and womens at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected. Nominees must be starters or important reserves and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20. Students are eligible when they reach sophomore athletic and academic standing.

Woody Hayes National Scholar Athlete Award
This award is given to an outstanding male and female student-athlete for demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership activities. Nominees must be in their last year of eligibility. Application Deadline: January

Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship
Each year two student-athletes from each of the Big 12 member institutions will be recognized with a $6,900 award. Winners will have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.20, participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics, and be in their final year of eligibility.

Big 12 All Academic Teams
Each year student-athletes are recognized for excellence within their sport and in the classroom. To be a first/second team selection, student-athletes must maintain either a cumulative or average over the past two semesters a 3.20/3.00 GPA. They must also compete in 60% of the team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfer student-athletes are not eligible during their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation are eligible.

Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll
Each semester student-athletes earning a 3.00 GPA are recognized with a conference certificate.

Sport-Specific Scholar-Athlete Awards
A number of coaches' associations in various sports-including the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association, the United States Track and Field Coaches Association and the National Golf Coaches Association- honor teams of top scholar athletes in their respective sports. Head coaches base their nomination on sport-specific criteria.
